"Don't worry, luna. You'll see us again tomorrow." Crew patted her on top of her head. "We'll be guarding you while the alphas go with the king to straighten out Tall Pines."
I knew the instant her brain processed his meaning because her face fell and all the light went out of her eyes.
Crew upset our mate, Topaz growled.Punish him!
Chill, dude. Jeez!
"What's wrong with you?" I muttered at Crew.
Shouldering the beta out of the way, I wrapped myself around Posy and snuggled her face into my chest. Well, more like the upper half of my stomach. Our girl wasshort.
"What?" Crew protested. "It's true, isn't it?"
"Yeah, but you didn't have to drop it on her like that!"
Comfort our mate!
Iam,Paz. Calm down.
I rolled my eyes. Goddess only knew how crazy he'd get if Posy ever had a real emergency.
"Oh! My bad, luna." Crew's eyes widened. "I thought you knew."
"Don't worry about it," Posy mumbled into my shirt.
Emerson offered Ty and Peri a ride home, and the betas left without much more ado. The king linked Gisela to bring Luke and Lilah to the clinic, where he and Ranger were currently checking in on the Maxwell twins and Tristan's mate. Afterwards, the king was going to take them all out to dinner, so we were free to just be with our mate.
Posy started to straighten up the cabana, so I helped her. My brothers, on the other hand, stood on the far side of the pool debating something.
"What's with all the ice pop wrappers?" I asked, holding up a bunch.
She just giggled, took them from me, and tossed them in the trash can. While we were washing our hands in the outdoor kitchen, I linked the boys.
What are you discussing?
We want to order delivery for dinner, Ash told me.Two votes for Chinese, one for Italian, and one for pizza. Preference?
Chinese, but let me check with Posy.
"We're ordering something for dinner tonight." I looped an arm around her waist and reeled her in again. "I'm feeling like Chinese. What about you?"
"Never tried it," she said, wrapping her arms around my waist and laying her cheek against me.
Chinese it is, then,I told the boys. She's never had it, so order a variety to see what she likes.
"I'm sorry we have to leave you tomorrow," I said quietly. "None of us want to, but Tall Pines—"
"I understand." She turned her face up to give me a brave smile. "I just didn't make the connection that you wouldallbe going."
Jay came over and twined a strand of her long hair around his finger.
"Crew said he spilled the beans about us leaving. We wanted to tell you ourselves." Jay frowned. "Fortunately, it's not often that all of us have to go. Unfortunately, this is one of those times."
"It's okay." She snuggled further into me while looking at Jay. "I'll have the betas to keep me busy during the day, and your scents in our bed to comfort me at night."
A bolt of lightning shot through me when she said that last part.
Can't wait to get our scent between her legs, too.
