Page 158 of Mates: Posy

That isn't helping, Paz.

Sorry, boss,he muttered, then grinned. But it's true.

Knowing she might feel my hard-on at any moment, I turned her over to Jay, who took our girl in his arms with a grin.

"How long will you be gone?" Posy asked.

"Two days at best," Jay said, "but probably three. Four or five if things go sideways."

Goddess, I hope it doesn't go sideways, I linked him.

You and me both, brother.

"The king and Ranger will be joining us later so we can go over the plan with you and the queen," I told her.

"Let's set up in the dining room," she suggested. "There's plenty of space, and we won't have to move when the food gets here."

"Sounds good."

She liked the egg drop soup, sesame chicken, and cheese wontons, but not the spicy dishes. We made sure to note what she made a face at so we didn't order it again.

By the time we finished and cleaned up, the king and his entourage had joined us, and he outlined the bare bones of our plan. We'd all agreed to keep the finer details to ourselves for several reasons.

One: Not used to situations like this, Luke, the queen, or Posy might unwittingly give something away that could get back to the enemy. We knew it was unlikely, but we couldn't afford any risks. Not when so many lives were on the line.

Two: They would worry.

Three: They definitely wouldn't approve of some parts of it.

"Tristan's mate, Ariel, will cover Gisela and Ranger's scent," King Julian began. "They'll scout ahead after dark. I've already gone over their roles with them."

"Is Ariel well enough to do that?" Posy wanted to know.

"Yes. Tristan marked her, and Creek helped her finish healing," the king told her. "While we were visiting with them, she volunteered before I could even ask."

"You can get to know her better while we're gone," Wyatt chimed in.

"I look forward to that," she said with a happy smile. "And how are the twins?"

"Getting better. You can go with Lilah to visit them tomorrow if you'd like." When she smiled and nodded, he continued. "In the morning, the alphas and I will head out. The betas will stay to guard you, and Luke to guard Lilah."

"Luke, you're okay with Gisela going into danger without you?" Posy looked at him with wide eyes.

"She's the king's beta. She didn't get the job simply because she's gorgeous." Luke grinned down at Gisela, who elbowed him in the ribs. "She says she can do it. Who am I to doubt her?"

I could see from Posy's face that she was going to need to process his response, so I motioned for the king to continue.

"We have a place off pack territory where we'll wait for Gisela and Ranger's report," he said. "We'll revise as needed based on their information, then we'll go in and deal with Alpha Halder."

"That sounds too simple," Posy said with a frown.

"Simple works best sometimes," he told her.

"I meant, it sounds like there is a lot more to the plan than you're saying."

I chuckled at her little frown.
