"You told her what I was doing?"
"I won’t lie to our mate," Wyatt said with narrowed eyes.
Seeing that this was headed for a confrontation, I reached up on my tippy toes, touched my fingertips to Mason’s jaw, and turned his head back to face me.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
His face scrunched up in a frown, as if he couldn’t even understand why I was asking him that.
"Of course."
I stared into his gray eyes without blinking for several long moments. At last, the corners of his lips twitched up a bit.
"He was a good man and a great warrior. Ending his misery was the least I could do for him. Thank you for worrying about me, little flower, but I’m fine."
Seeing the truth in his face, I moved my hands to his shoulders and tugged.
"What are you trying to do?" he asked.
"Come down here, please."
He leaned down again, but I still had to jump a little to loop my arms around his neck. He stood there for a second, still and uncertain, then very gently folded his arms around my shoulders and hugged me back.
"Posy," he muttered.
His nose nuzzled into my neck, making shivers race through me and goosebumps pop up on my skin.
"Okay, okay!" Wyatt interrupted our moment. "Now that our cutie’s convinced you’re not heartbroken, let’s go make some lunch!"
8: Seeking Sanctuary
Jayden
We didn't get transfer requests very often. It usually only happened if a wolf found his or her mate in another pack or if a rogue or lone wolf wanted to come in out of the cold, which was hardly ever. So I was curious as to why Luke MacGregor, a twenty-four-year-old warrior, had asked for a meeting to discuss moving to our pack with his younger sister.
He showed up right on time, which was a point to the good. I introduced myself, then led him back to my office.
"Make yourself comfortable," I said as I sat behind my desk. "There's coffee, tea, and water at the table behind you."
"Thank you, Alpha Carson, but I'm fine."
I observed him as he settled on the leather loveseat and took up most of it. He was easily one of the bigger wolves I’d met. Not only did he share Cole’s bear-like build, but he also stood as tall as Mase, who was six foot six. He moved with easy, athletic grace, and I had no doubt he was a competent warrior.
Can’t wait to try him in fighter practice.Quartz all but salivated at the hope of a worthy opponent.
Only Cole and Mase gave him a run for his money, and only Cole could be pushed to go all out. Mase's icy control rarely slipped, but Cole's temper often got the better of him. That always made for a brutal fight.
No, agoodfight, disagreed my psychotic wolf as he grinned disturbingly.
"So, Mr. MacGregor, you want to join our pack with your younger sister, correct?"
"Yes, alpha."
"What are your reasons for leaving Tall Pines? And why do you want to relocate to Five Fangs?"
"My primary reason for leaving is to protect my little sister. The alpha dislikes her and has ordered the rest of the pack to treat her harshly. He told them to use her appearance as an excuse to bully her."
I wondered what he meant by her appearance, but figured I’d find out eventually. I made myself pay attention as he continued.
