Granite and Topaz whined, and pain rippled across their faces.
Ash ran up to us then, Peri on his heels.
"What did you two do to upset our girl?"
"Andyou!" I rounded on him. "How you not even see theonlything in here my girl like? She try to show you, but you too busy deciding everything for her. You nolistento her!"
"What? No! I…" His voice died out as his eyes turned neon green.
"My darling, I sorry," Sid whispered. "Ashy get excited sometimes and lost in his head. He not mean to ignore—"
"How none of your boys know they hurting Posy?" I spat.
Wow. I was really piling up the offenses now. This was not going to end well.
Posy?
She didn’t answer me, and I knew she’d gone back to her old stand-by of stay still, stay silent, and stay alive.
"What’s happening here?"
Mason’s voice was so calm and quiet, it was like a balm on my frazzled mind.
Turning my head to the right, I saw him standing there with Jayden, and I wondered at what point they’d joined us.
"Lark, may I speak with Posy, please?"
Jayden also used a mild tone, as if he knew I was a shotgun on a hair trigger and needed only the lightest touch to explode.
"She no want to come out." I shook my head hard and fast. "She hurt and so scared."
Sid, Granite, and Topaz whimpered, but Garnet let out a long, low growl.
Oh, no. Wereallygoing to get punished now.
I’d made everything worse. Not only was I talking back to and defying the alphas, I was making my mates angry.
My lungs started to suck in air as if I’d run for miles, which I hadn’t been allowed to do in ages.
"I sorry, alphas," I gulped and bowed my head. "We know you making the best of bad situation, getting stuck with worthless, damaged mate like us. I have no right to get angry if you find other females who make you happy. Punish me as you want. Give me wolfsbane and I go to sleep again. Just please no punish Posy because of me."
I covered my face with shaking hands and curled my shoulders in. The pain in my chest was worse than when Father broke both my femurs.
Just once, I wish we have someone there when we not okay. Someone who would hold us together when we falling apart. Just once.
"Lark."
My breaking heart stilled to hearthatwolf’s voice, and I dropped my hands to stare into Quartz’s golden eyes.
"Please," I whimpered, not sure what I was even begging for.
"Come. Here. Now."
There was no arguing with an alpha’s command, but Posy’s frail body was giving out on us. Lungs straining, heart racing, I blinked as the world faded around the edges. My eyes rolled back in my head and I crashed to the floor.
Before my head could bounce off the hard tile, a pair of hands caught me and lifted me up into a cloud of rose perfume.
