"Yourrationalside knows the truth, yes. Yourirrationalside, though, doesn't agree."

She was quiet as she thought about what he said.

"So how do I get them to agree?" she asked after a moment.

"Well, I can give you some ideas to try, but, ultimately, you need to admit and accept what's wrong. Then you can begin to process it and heal."

Posy, may I please speak with Dr. York?I asked, unable to stay silent any longer.

Oh. Yes. Of course. I forgot he also spoke to the boys' wolves. It's only fair that he speaks with you, too.

Do you mind if it private? It about me and my wolf mates.

Are you having trouble, too?she asked, worried now.

Some, but I think he might help me clear it up.

Is it with one wolf or all of them?she wanted to know.

Grr. This girl always needed the whole story! Thinking quickly, I came up with something she'd buy.

Just Sid.

Is this about Mr. Nibbles? Because I swear, I'm over that—

No, Posy. I worried about how he feeling after what happened between you and Ash.

I felt her pain and grief in our bond. She was so very upset with herself for hurting Ash that way. I cursed at myself. I knew I should have said Quartz instead of Sid; she wouldn't have even questionedhimas my problem.

Oh, no! Is Sid depressed? Is he hurt? Is he—

Posy, you have enough with your mates. Please let me handle Sid, okay?

Okay. You're right.She nodded.He's your mate. I get it.

"Dr. York, my wolf wants to talk to you in private," she told him. "Her name is Lark. I'm going to let her ascend while I think about all that you've said."

"Very well, luna."

Posy sank to the back of our mind and I blocked her out. I was far better at it than she was with me; she wouldn't hear a peep.

I didn't like to deceive or manipulate her, but Ihadto protect her. It was what I'd done all my life. I took the hits and pain for her when I could, healed her when I couldn't, tried to keep her hopes up by telling her we would escape and find our mate, and helped her maintain the good memories she had from her childhood. Not everyone would agree with some of my methods, such as tattling on her to the alphas, but I didn't always know how else to protect her.

Now she was once more trapped in a dark place, this time mentally instead of physically, and I would protect her again, even if it meant going behind her back.

"Hello, Lark," Dr. York said politely as he met my silver eyes.

"Hello, doctor. Now you and I is going to have a chat."

After our wolves' session with Dr. York, we took back control, turned the home office over to him and Posy, then headed to the living room.

None of us felt like talking. We didn't get a game out or even turn on TV. We just ... sat.

Finally, Dr. York came into the living room, but he was alone.
