Quartz's ferocious howl deafened us both and rattled the trees around us. I didn't know what had set him off, but I wasn't going to let him hurt an innocent wolf.
Flinging out the power I still held, I yelled, "NO! DOWN!"

Of course, Posy didn't know that Quartz was reacting to the king's warning. Most likely, she thought he was breaking their agreement, and she flung out power in a wild wave to hold him back.
"NO! DOWN!"
Her Ultimate Luna Voice was an invisible hand that slammed Quartz to the ground hard enough to knock the breath out of him. While he lay flat on his back, gasping and cursing, her power pushed my other brothers and me to our knees.
That didn't surprise us, but seeing the werewolf king stumble back a step definitely did.
"She shoved me!" King Julian gasped with wide eyes.
"She's awesome, right, dude?" Ash said with a broad grin. "I told you, our girl is a badass bitch!"
Then Posy dropped her power, and we could move again. Quartz didn't, though, so Mase and Ash went over to check on him while Cole and I ran to our girl.
"Q didn't break his word," I hurried to tell her. "The king said something that upset him. He wasn't going for Maple."
"Oh, no!" She lifted her face to stare up at me, her eyes filling with tears. "I made a mistake! Is he okay?"
"He's fine," Cole assured her, but the words went in one ear and out the other.
"Sorry, Ethan." She pushed at his shoulder and tried to shove him off her lap. "I need to check on Quartz!"
Ethan rolled away, winding the t-shirt around his waist as he went, and Cole helped him stand.
"Let me get you to your dad," Cole offered. "He's waiting at the cars. I'm sure he's going to be very happy to see you and know Maple is fine."
As they left, Posy ignored my efforts to get her on her feet and simply crawled over to Quartz, who still sprawled on the grass like a starfish.
Dramatic little bitch, ain't he?I smirked.
Always.Granite rolled his eyes.
"Q? Are you okay?" Posy asked frantically, her hands patting up and down his body. "Did I hurt you?"
"And to think I was worriedhe'dhurtyou." Quartz sat up and pulled her into a hug. "I think you could hold your own against nearly any wolf."
Letting out a sigh of relief, her shoulders relaxed and she dropped her forehead to his chest.
"I'm sorry!" Her words were muffled, but audible. "I shouldn't have doubted you'd keep your word."
"No, little one. You did exactly as the gammas trained you to do. I'm proud of you."
"Thank you." Posy lifted her head and smiled a big sunshine smile. "And thank you for working with me."
King Julian cleared his throat and glanced at his watch, and Posy jumped, clearly shocked to see him. Her smile fell and her eyes dimmed almost instantly, but I couldn't tell if it was because she knew he came to end Maple or if she was embarrassed for him to see her scars.
Since she tried to hide herself behind Quartz, I figured it was the scars.
"Good job, luna," the king praised her, and her face turned beet red.
"Thank you, your majesty."
