The reception was so much fun! We feasted on things I'd never heard of and I tried champagne for the first time. The bubbly fizz tickled my nose, which made my mates chuckle. Although alcohol didn't have much effect on wolves or most shifters, some still enjoyed drinking it for the taste. I wasn't one of them. Champagne? Eh, you could keep it. I'd stick to Pepsi!

Even though I hadnoidea what I was doing, I danced with my mates, the king, the king's elegant grandfather, Ranger, Zayne, Zayden, and Luke. They were all patient as I figured out the steps and rhythm, although Luke cheated and put my shoes on top of his and just waddled us around the dance floor. Gisela snapped a ton of pictures of us while laughing at me, and I gave her a dark glare. It didn't even bother her! With a raised eyebrow, she said I looked like a concussed kitten and told me to stick to looking cute instead.

Pouting, I huffed at her, which made her laugh again, then the king's father asked me for a dance.

"Luna," he began as he guided me around the dance floor, "I want to formally apologize for what happened concerning your father. I allowed myself to be advised by someone who wasn't trustworthy. That individual has since been dealt with, but I hold myself ultimately accountable for Logan Everleigh's death."

"Kendall Briggs planned and committed the crime," I murmured, staring at his shoulder instead of meeting his eyes. "It wasn't your fault."

"Maybe not directly, but every wolf in my pack is my responsibility. I've made restitution to the Everleighs and would like you to consider what I may provide for you as well. I cannot change the past, as much as I would like to, but please tell me what compensation I can give you for your loss."

"Do you mean money?" I tilted my head and finally met his eyes, trying to work out all his long words. "I don't want or need money because there isn't enough in the world to replace the father I never knew. However, you can fund my school project for our pack and help build a legacy in his name. I want to open a secondary school so our members don't need to go to the human one."

"I would be more than happy to do so," he chuckled. "And, yes, compensation usually takes the form of money, but if a school is your wish, so be it. Whatever you ask, luna."

"Hmm. Then I ask that you form a committee to do some investigations so that things like this don't happen anymore. Same with creating a group of people to go around to packs in secret and make sure alphas are behaving and caring for their members the way they should."

I watched his face as I spoke, which is how I caught the glitter ofsomethingin his eyes. I didn't know what it was; I could only hope it wasn't his wolf stirring with anger.

"How did you know that?" he asked with a funny little smile.

"Know what?"

"Know that my son is changing a few laws and procedures concerning those issues? He's going to inform the rest of our family at brunch tomorrow, then hash out some details with your mates during tea. How did you know about it?"

"I didn't, but it's the intelligent thing to do." I shrugged, then gave him a cheeky grin. "So I guess you have one very intelligent son, sir."

He stared at me without blinking for several seconds, then a bright smile spread across his face and crinkled the corners of his hazel eyes into a web of wrinkles.

"And I think Five Fangs has a very wise luna," he chuckled.

The dance ended and Magnus handed me off to my mates where they still stood talking with Luke and Gisela. Wyatt immediately tucked me under his arm and squeezed me tight against him.

"Got the king's father wrapped around your finger, too, huh?" he teased, making me blush. "You even made the old fart smile and laugh. You got magic in you, cutie."

"Like I said, a miracle worker." Jayden leaned in and kissed my forehead. "Our precious girl. You have more power in your gentle, kind heart than anything you can draw out of the six packs."

My face really on fire now, I turned it into Wyatt's side and tried to burrow into him.

"Stop teasing her," Mason rumbled from my other side.

"I'm not teasing her. I'mcomplimentingher."

"With Posy, it's the same thing," Mason insisted.

"Ha ha ha, dude! If she turns any redder, she's going to put tomatoes to shame," Ash laughed. "Every time I think you can't get any cuter, you do. You're the cutest cupcake ever!"

"Nowyou'reteasing her!" Mason squawked.
