"Wait. Let me see if Gabbro or Pumice will go instead," I offered.

"Thank you," Cole and Mase said in unison.

So I linked my dad and my grandfather, and Granddad immediately said he'd go. Pumice could get Quartz to calm down, then Quartz could make Sid listen. It was the best I could do other than going myself, which was impossible at the moment. I'd already been gone from the reception for too long.

Knowing I'd done all the damage control I could, I reached out and laid my hand on the side of Lark's face.

"It's going to be okay, little sister," I murmured. "You have your mates with you now. That was your goal, wasn't it? To survive until your mates found you and you could leave that place?"

"Yes, your majesty."

"Well, guess what?" I half-rose and kissed her forehead. "You achieved your goal. Congratulations. Now you can rest easy. You can sleep and let these big, bad wolves protect your girlandyou for a while."

She blinked at me a few times, then gave me an impish smile, complete with dimples, and I grinned, proud of myself for getting her to smile when she'd been so distressed.

Good boy, Jul.

Thanks.I rolled my eyes at my sarcastic wolf as Mase swung Lark up in his arms and started for the door, his brothers trailing in his wake.

Gave little sister comfort.Onyx apparently thought I needed clarification on why I was being praised as a 'good boy.'Helped alphas. Caught bad guy. Jul is good boy.

Realizing he was sincere, I smiled a little as I, too, walked toward the door.

You know, Nyx,I'm really glad you're mellowing—

Now enough being softy!he interrupted me.Go back to mate! Right now, Jul! Chop chop!

"So much for becoming mellow," I muttered to myself.

My wolf tilted his head to the side as he asked,Whatismellow, Jul?

Everything you're not.

His eyebrows scrunched up in a frown for a second as he thought about it, then he shrugged.

Kestrel love Nyx the way Nyx is.Nyx will be Nyx forever.

I huffed out a nearly silent laugh. Little did he know how much he'd already changed for his little wolf mate, but I wasn't going to be the one to tell him!

Once we were back at the guest house, Lark asked Mason and Cole if we wolves could have control of their bodies.

"If you okay with that." Looking nervous, she clasped her hands in front of her. "I like them to hold me."

"Anything you want, precious." Mason smiled softly, then handed me the reins as Cole did the same with Topaz.

Granite was already ascendant, and the three of us surrounded our girl in no time. The pups wanted to bury her in a puppy pile on the bed, but I grabbed her around the waist and pulled her away from them.

"We need to get out of these fancy clothes first," I explained, "and take off our shoes."

"Taking shoes off is easy!" Topaz crowed and plopped down on the floor. "Look, Lark! Just pull this little string, see? And then spread this part a little and ta da! Shoe off!"

He held it up with a look of triumph, then tossed it over his shoulder.

"Hey, be careful!" I scolded him. "The boys pay a lot for their shoes."
