"It didn't work out so well," Ash hedged.

"What happened?" she demanded.

Ash shrugged, then looked at me.

"The matriarch was a jerk," I summed up, "and the other dragons were mean to him because he isn't a pure dragon."

She gasped and covered her mouth with her hands.

"He's fine. He's with Mase and Jay right now," I assured her.

Pulling her hands down, I nudged her plate closer to her, encouraging her to finish eating. She picked up her burger again, but narrowed her eyes at us.

Ash and I both knew what was coming and sighed in unison.

"Well, I hope you know he's staying with us forever now. I gave you a chance to find him a home - against my gut instinct, might I add - and it didn't work. We may not be dragons, but we have witches to help us know how to care for him."

"Where will he live? The pack house isn't the right place, nor is the O," Ash pointed out before I could.

"Andwe have another problem," I said, "Mase and Jay got him to open up a little more last night. Seems he's having trouble controlling his dragon side."

"What's going on with his dragon side?" Ash wanted to know.

"Does he have a completely independent dragon spirit like we do with our wolves?" Posy asked.

"Yes," I answered our mate first. "His dragon's name is Chime Karma, and he needs to consume magic. Not a lot or very often, but some. To keep it simple, he's starving, which makes it hard for Kon to control him."

As we talked more about it, I cleared away our lunch remains while Ash unwrapped Posy's hair from the towel and started to brush it out. Her eyes were far away, and I didn't think it was just from the pleasure of having him comb her hair. As she thought, she tapped her chin with her forefinger, which was the cutest thing ever and always made my heart flip when she did it.

"Does it matter if it's dark or light magic?" She finally focused her pretty blue eyes on me.

"According to him, no. Why?"

"Is he still with Mason and Jayden?"

"Yes," was all I said, not wanting to tell her they couldn't convince him to leave the little stick shelter he built out in the woods.

"I think I have a solution. Do you mind if we take a few minutes and deal with this before we leave for our date? Or are we on a time schedule?"

"No, honey, it's fine. We don't need to be anywhere by a certain time. Besides, I have all the patience in the world for you."

"Cole, you link Mason and Jayden to bring Kon here. Ash, you link the witches and see which of them is free to join us."

"Angelo. I need to ask him a few questions."
