We waited for her to signal she was ready to go up the walk and knock on the door. Her eyes went far away for a moment, and we looked at each other, wondering what thoughts she'd gotten lost in, then she took a deep breath, lifted her chin, and led us up the walk.
Our strong luna, I linked my boys as my heart swelled with pride.
Stronger than all of us,Wyatt agreed.
She knocked on the door and only a second passed before it opened and revealed a man my father's age. Everything about him - from his posture to his expression - was soft and submissive, and I smelled his omega blood.
His gentle brown eyes went straight to Posy's face and filled with tears as he studied her.
"Hello." He stopped to clear his throat. "Welcome. I'm Lincoln Everleigh. Please come in."
He stepped back and held his arm out in invitation. Posy smiled at him, then stepped over the threshold, and we followed.
Duck, I reminded Ash as Cole and I both had to dip our heads to make it under the lintel.
Dude, he groaned.Not a baby!
Sid, how many times has he whacked his head on the doorway of his office alone?I smirked.
Up to fifty now,Sid snickered, and all of us had to fight back grins as Ash whined about us bullying him.
I'm fixing that door when we get back home,Wyatt grumbled.I should have done it long ago.
He was handy like that and enjoyed carpentry, something I had no skill with or knowledge of.
Thanks, Wy,I told him sincerely. That's really nice of you. I'm sure you'll do a good job, and it will help our brother cut back on self-inflicted concussions.
Wyatt didn't respond, but I felt a rush of warmth in the alpha bond and knew he was pleased I'd praised him.
Needy pup, I muttered to myself, and Garnet smirked.
We entered the living room in a pentagon around Posy, and our silent chuckles at Ash's pouty face cut off as we surveyed the occupants. Our instincts to protect were on high alert, but there was zero threat here. Only an elderly lady, an Asian woman who was maybe my mama's age, and two kids younger than Posy.
My brothers and I and our wolves all relaxed.
The elderly lady stepped toward us, her brown eyes flicking around to all our faces with a hint of confusion, and I knew she was wondering where Posy was. Since we surrounded her, she was hidden from view as much as her family was hidden from her sight, and I linked Wyatt and Jay to step aside so Posy could see.
"Hello. I'm Alberta Everleigh." The old lady's eyes filled with tears as they finally landed on Posy's face. "Logan Everleigh was my son."
Posy approached Alberta, who hesitantly held out her hand. As with the king, our girl ignored the outstretched hand and walked right into her grandma's arms and hugged her. Posy was so short, her head lay on Alberta's chest, and the old lady's tentative smile bloomed into a full one.
"You're my grandma?" Posy raised her head after a moment and stared up at Alberta.
"That's right." Tears streamed down her cheeks, her brown eyes bright with tenderness and love. "I'm so happy to meet you. So, so happy."
They hugged a little longer, then the man who let us in the house popped up at Alberta's elbow.
"Ma." He laid his hand on her shoulder. "Share, would you? We all want to meet her."
"Sorry, my boy. Posy, this is my son, Lincoln. He's your father's twin."
"Oh!" Posy stepped back and her eyes studied Lincoln's face. "You don't look like the photo I have of him."
"Fraternal twins often don't," he told her patiently, studying her as intensely as she was him.
That led to a discussion of what fraternal meant, which twin was born first - Logan - and how she'd managed to get a photo of her father.
Then Lincoln asked her for a hug, which she gave him with a beaming smile, and he told her to call him Uncle Link. After that, he introduced her to his wife, Aye, who was originally from Korea. Posy found that fascinating and asked a dozen questions until Aye promised to teach her as much as she wanted to know about Korean culture.
