“It’s a poison Luc made to torture souls with. It obviously won’t kill them, but it causes excruciating pain. One day, some of it went missing,” he whispers back. “Apparently, they stole it and found out it had a different effect on demons.”

Oh no.

The room is completely silent as we all process what Bartleby is saying. Then a terrifying roar erupts from Luc right before he beheads his son with one swipe of his clawed hand. Bartleby’s head sails through the air, hitting the wall right beside Droxley and bouncing to the ground. I’ve never seen my grandfather like this. Now I know why everyone fears him. I have to stop him before the bloodlust completely takes over and he’s lost to me forever. I just met him. I can’t lose him now.

“Luc!” I shout, trying to get his attention.

“Maddy! No! Stay out of his way!” all three men scream at me but I can’t. I can’t let him lose himself to his pain.

“Avus! Please! I know you’re hurting but don’t do this. Come back to us. Come back tome! You can punish them, but not like this. Serafina would never want you to succumb to your devil like this. She would want you to be happy. Live your life for her. Make her proud.”

Luc’s huge form heaves as he takes deep breaths. I slowly approach him and gently lay my hand on his back. “I know. I’m so sorry,Avus.” No one else could possibly understand the pain he’s feeling right now. But I do. I feel it all and it’s crippling. I wish there was something I could do. I would do anything to take away some of his pain. Just enough so he can think. He’s drowning in his grief and the only thing I want is to save him.

Suddenly his form changes beneath my hand until he’s back to the Luc I know, at least in physical form.

“Thank you,Neptis. I think I need some time alone right now. I’m going to retire to my room. Do whatever you want to him,” he directs the last part toward Belz before leaving the room in a puff of smoke.

BelzstalkstowardDroxley, ready to get his pound of flesh as soon as Luc gives him permission. Once Luc disappears, Maddy turns to find Belz stopped in front of her kidnapping uncle.

“Belz, please. I know you need to do this, but not right now. I need to get out of here. Can we just go to my room, please? It’s been a really long day and I don’t think I can handle anymore today,” Maddy sighs, the gravity of what happened today clearly weighing on her.

“Of course,Amica Mea. Anything you need.”

“Thank you.” Her shoulders slump at his agreement.

“I’ll see you later, then. Take care of her,” Oz orders Belz and me.

“You’re not coming?” Maddy asks with a quiver in her voice that stabs me in the heart.

“You want me to come, Princess?” Oz asks, quirking a brow at her in challenge.

“Please?” She begs him with her eyes and he can’t deny her.

“Of course. Anything for you, Princess,” he murmurs, surprising the hell out of me. I don’t know what happened while they were together, but they’re a lot closer than they used to be. I knew it was only a matter of time before something happened with them. It looks like now is that time.

“Luc needs you, Snow. Go comfort him, okay, sweet girl?” Maddy pets the hound as they share some kind of moment before she sends her to Luc.

I wrap my arms around my mate and kiss her forehead. “Let’s get out of here, Angel.”

She nods against my chest and the next thing I know, we’re in her suite by her bed.

“What do you need?” I ask, brushing hair behind her ear.

“Make me feel. Just replace the oppressive feeling of heartache. It was bad before, but I think I somehow took some of Luc’s pain and nowI’mdrowning in it.”

“We’ll take care of you, sweet girl,” I vow, brushing my lips over her forehead once again. My girl is amazing. The amount of power she wields without even consciously trying is mind-boggling. If she needs us to make her feel, to take away the despair she’s feeling, we’re more than up to the challenge.

I strip her shirt off her, dropping it to the floor beside us and trail my hands up her bare sides as I kiss her neck. It’s not long before there are other hands on her, divesting her of the rest of her clothing as we work together to make her feel good.

It feels natural to do this with Belz and Oz. Like pleasing Maddy is what we were made to do. There’s still something missing, but having Oz with us brings a new intensity to everything.

“Lay down, Princess,” Oz orders, nipping her ear from behind her.

I take a step back, watching as she follows his orders, climbing on the bed on her hands and knees, shaking her ass at us as she crawls up the bed before settling on her back in the center.
