“What’s that supposed to mean? How can I feelyourpleasure?” she asks, confused.

“It’s part of the mate bond,” I explain. “Our souls are connected now. That comes with some perks.” I smirk at her.

“So, you can feel whatever I feel?” she asks and her nervousness shoots down the bond.

“Yes, love. There’s nothing to be nervous about. It’s supposed to be a good thing. We’ll always know if you’re in danger and be able to find you.”

“Hmmm. I’ll have to think about how I feel about that. But there’s no time now. Let’s go see what my grandfather wants.”

Once we're all decent, I take Maddy’s hand and lead her to the door.

"Wait. Didn't Oz pop in? Why can't we do that?" she asks as we walk into her sitting room.

"Oz was sent by Luc. Only royals can 'pop' wherever they want," I explain with a grin. "Though Luc is the only one who can send others away like that. He can ‌do anything he can imagine with his powers."

"But Oz did when he sent Chad to Hell. And I did when I popped us to my room," she argues.

"True. Oz has power over prisoners as part of his job. Chad was a prisoner, so Oz could send him to Hell for his punishment. As for you… I'm not sure if it's part of being a royal, or has something to do with the prophecy. Could be worth asking Luc." I shrug. I honestly have no clue what she'll be able to do with her powers. If she's supposed to be Luc's replacement, I'd wager that she'd be able to do anything he can do.

"Well, what better way to bring up the topic than by showing him I can do it?" She has a mischievous smile, and I'm not sure this is a good idea.

"I don't know if now's the time for that kind of surprise. He was pretty…upsetwhen he left you. I don't think it's a good idea to surprise Luc when he's in a mood," I warn her.

"Oh, come on. What's the worst that could happen? He's not going to hurt me."

"Maybe not on purpose,Amica Mea.And even if he won't do anything to you… that doesn't meanwe'resafe."

"I'll protect you, Belz," she murmurs, running her hands up my chest, with a seductive smirk on her face, and I groan as her lust coming through the bond goes straight to my dick. Standing on her tiptoes, she covers my mouth with hers.

I twist my hands in her hair and deepen the kiss without a thought, realizing too late that she was just distracting me so she could pop us to Luc's without me arguing against it.

"Well, what do we have here?" Luc's voice is like a bucket of ice water, pulling my attention from the vixen in my arms. "You're just full of surprises, aren't you, Granddaughter?" Unlike the fury I was expecting, his tone is affectionate and proud.

"Well, I didn't want to keep you waiting," she replies with a smirk, and I glare at her as her smugness filters through the bond.

"Indeed. One should never keep the devil waiting." He winks and Maddy laughs. All while I stand here feeling like I'm in the twilight zone. "So, it's safe to say you have access to your powers now. We'll start your lessons tomorrow. First, we need to discuss my daughter and this prophecy she told you about."

"So, she wasn't making that up?" Maddy grimaces.

"I'm afraid not,Neptis." He snaps his fingers and seals the room. I can feel the power wash over us and know there's no getting in or out of this room until he releases it. We might as well be in our own universe. "What is said in this room can never leave the room. You will tellno one.Not your mother. Not your brother. Not your boyfriends," he declares, giving each of us a look that dares us to argue. We're not suicidal, though… well… Zeph and I aren't. Maddy is clearly not scared of the devil at all.

"Why not?" she demands with her chin tilted in defiance.

"Because it's notsafe,Neptis. The prophecy is about you. You need to know what it says. And I know you would never keep this information from your mates. That's the only reason they're allowed to stay."

"But Mom knows about the prophecy. How are you going to keep it from her?"

"You let me worry about that. You have more than enough on your plate, my dear."

"Okay," she sighs heavily, clearly not happy about having to keep this from her mother.

Luc gives her a sad smile and softly says, “Thank you,” before snapping his fingers again and holding his hand palm up. A scroll appears in his hand and we watch in silence as he unrolls it. “Remiel gave it to me years ago. When Zofina never met her mate, I thought it was a prank and put it away on a shelf in my library, never giving it another thought. I should have taken it more seriously. I know Remy’s visions are never wrong, but I honestly thought he was just playing with me. I mean, come on, a replacement for the devil? Why on earth would I ever retire? Yet, here you are. The daughter of my favored daughter. Not in Hell even a day, and already more powerful than any demon before you.” His eyes fill with awe as he looks at Maddy, and his voice is full of pride. “You earned your horns faster than any demon, even your mother. And so young, too. Why, Zofina was twice your age before she ever stood up to me. You’re the only two that ever have and lived to tell about it.

“I still don’t know what would make me want to retire, but you’re here, so the prophecy must be true. We’ll need to train you so that when the time comes, you can fulfill your destiny. Your mother will teach you everything you need to know about the palace. Belzar will teach you the ins and outs of royal security, and Zephyr will teach you all about the denizens of Gehenna. You’ll be with me for the rest of the time. Shadowing me, seeing firsthand what my job as ruler of Hell entails, and learning how to use your power.”

“O-okay,” Maddy agrees, chewing on her plump bottom lip.

“Boys, you go to work. Madelyne will be safe with me. Though, I have no doubt she can take care of herself. Don’t worry, I’ll send her back to you… eventually.” He gives us a sinister smile that has me believing he plans to keep our mate as long as possible. It’ll likely be Maddy’s doing when she finally comes back to us.
