“Just the bitch we’ve been looking for,” she laughs.
“Oh, were you looking for me? Well, here I am. What can I do for you? Did your high priestess curse you too?” I ask brightly.
“Why you little-” Cybil starts before Nicole interrupts.
“Don’t be stupid, Lila. It’s not a good look.”
“You would know,” I scoff, laughing as her face turns red. “How’d you find me anyway? No one but my mom knew where I was and Iknowshe didn’t tell you.”
“We’re not as stupid as you think,” Nicole snarks.
“Yeah. We know a tracker in Orange Grove. We gave her a shirt you left at the coven house. She easily found you.” Cybil smirks as she whips out her wand and points it at me. “Mommy’s not here to save you now,” she sneers.
“What are you going to do? Cast in the middle of town? Didn’t your mommy ever tell you not to use magic in public?” I mock.
“Lila, as much as I love your firecracker personality, don’t you think you should maybenotprovoke the crazy people with wands?” Mateo whispers in my ear.
He’s probably right, but I’m tired of hiding. If they want a fight, I’ll give them a fight.
“Who’s this?” Cybil purrs looking at my mate like she wants to fuck him.
“I suggest you don’t look at my mate like that if you want to keep your eyes,” I advise with a smile.
Their eyes widen and Nicole gasps, “Mate?”
“That’s right. And I’m very possessive.” I glare at them, stepping in front of Mateo to block him from their view.
“Well, he won’t be your mate when we’re done with you,” Cybil smirks.
“And how do you plan to do that, exactly?” I arch a brow.
“With this.” She cackles as she dangles a chain in front of her.
There’s an old bronze medallion with a black stone in the center. It shines in the sun and I worry for the first time that they’re not as stupid as I’ve always thought. It seems they came prepared. That doesn’t exactly bode well for me. I see curses. I’m not some badass fighter witch.
“What’s that gonna do? Besides clash with your outfit,” I snark. Gotta keep up the attitude. I won’t let them see me sweat.
“Me reina, perhaps we should call the authorities,” Mateo suggests.
“Oh, look, Nicole, her worst fear is that her mates will abandon her like every other man in her life. How pathetic,” Cybil snipes.
“How do you- I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I scoff.
“That’s not what this says,” she taunts as she holds out the medallion. “Let’s see if it’s right… You thought you once loved her, now you don’t know her,” she says.
“Nooo!” I cry, but it's too late. The spell has been spoken. I turn to Mateo, dreading what I know I'm going to see. “Mateo?” I say hesitantly
“Do I know you?” My mate asks and my heart shatters.
“No. No no no no. This can't be happening,” I sob.
“You okay, lady?” He asks, twisting the knife.
I turn on my phone and call Luca, praying the spell Cybil cast didn’t affect him too.
“Hello?” Luca’s sexy Italian accent greets me and I momentarily feel better just from hearing his voice.
“Luca! It’s Lila. They’re here. They put a spell on Mateo and now he doesn’t know who I am,” I cry into the phone.
