“I’m sorry to hear that ma’am, but you should call the police, not the fire chief. That’s not something I can help you with.”
“No!” I sob. It hit him too. “Is Harkin there? What about Jett? Someone has to know me.”
“What did you say your name was again? Lilly?”
“Lila. It’s Lila,” I croak.
“Right. Sorry. Hey Evans! Either of you know a Lila?”
The silence is deafening before Jett finally speaks. “Don’t think so. Is she hot? I could get to know her.”
“She’s in trouble, asshole. She doesn’t need you hitting on her,” he snaps before putting the phone back to his ear. “Sorry, ma’am, no one knows a Lila here. I hope you find who you’re looking for,” he says then he’s gone and I’m left alone…again.
I crumble to the ground and sob into my hands. This can’t be happening.
“That was easier than I thought it’d be,” Nicole snickers.
“I know! Look at her! So pathetic. She thought she could get away with ruining our lives? Look at her now. All it took was one little spell and she lost everything she loved. Ahhh, sweet revenge,” Cybil gloats.
I can sense eyes on me, but I don’t care. Let the world see my breakdown. It doesn’t matter. Cybil’s right. I just lost the men I love. This time it hurts so much more than every other time a man walked out on me. Including Trent and my father. They won. They’ve successfully ruined my life. All because I had to open my big mouth.
“What the hell is going on?” A woman with long blond hair and a bright pink jacket marches across the street toward us. “Who are these petty bitches?”
“You mean pretty witches,” Nicole says with a smile.
The woman looks her over and scoffs. “I said what I said.” She turns to me.“Are you okay?”
“No,” I manage to say.
“What do you care?” Cybil sneers. “Mind your own fucking business and move along.”
“You’re fucking with one of the locals and we don’t abandon each other here,” the woman says coldly.
We don’t abandon each other here. Jett said Silver Springs has powerful witches that would step in to help a fellow Springer. He was right.
“Thank you. I’m Lila. I’m new to town, but my mate told me the town would protect me now that I’m aSpringer. I guess that’s you.” I smile at her with watery eyes.
“Alyssa. Welcome to town. And he’s right, we take care of each other in Silver Springs. This kinda thing happens more than you would expect, but no one is ever alone here. What did they do to you?” She scowls at them.
“They used that thing to make my mates forget me,” I explain, pointing at the medallion in Cybil’s hand.
Alyssa looks Cybil and Nicole over and her expression turns icy. “A fearmonger relic. Why does every fucking dumbass shitmouth have a relic?” Purple-black magic flames in her hands.
“Shit, shit, do something,” Cybil says, holding up the relic, trying to use it against her.
Alyssa waves her hands and a shield of purple-black magic tinged with pink rises between us and Cybil. “You don’t know who you’re fucking with. Come tomytown and try to use a relic againstme? I know more about relics than you know about doing your make-up. Which isn’t much by the looks of that blend job. Pro-tip, don’t go so hard on the bronzer. If you’re not meant to tan, just move on.” The magic in her hands flame higher and she glances at me. “Which one of them do you want to take?”
I’m not alone. The guys may not know me right now, but they were right when they said I’d always have backup in Silver Springs. This woman doesn’t even know me, yet she’s prepared to fight two witches just because I live in her town. If she’s willing to fight for a stranger, I sure as hell can fight for my mates.
Standing, I glare at Cybil. She did this. She tried to take my men from me. Well, I’m going to get them back and take her down.
“Her,” I say.She’s mine.
