Thatwas why Jill hadn’t said anything. She thought they were going back to her place to continue the date.

“We can watch a movie or something,” Jill added. “It’s still early. I think I have wine somewhere, but if I don’t, Idoknow I have coffee. I always have coffee.”

“Youthinkyou have wine?”

“Yeah. Monica is into wine, and when I told her that I knew nothing about it, she started buying me bottles randomly and trying to teach me things. I should have at least one good bottle in there that we could open.”

Enid looked down at where Jill’s hands were now, on her hips. She was gently pushing and then pulling back as if shedidn’t know what to do, but she wanted to be touching Enid somehow. Enid met her eyes and smiled at her.

“Maybe I should just kiss you goodnight and call you later,” she suggested.

Jill squinted her eyes at her and asked, “You don’t want to come in? I cleaned my apartment, Enid.”

Enid laughed because Jill was being playful now, and she liked it. It helped ease a little bit of her tension, and it was definitely needed right about now because it had been a while since another woman had had her hands on Enid’s hips like this, so it was doing things to her.

“I know. I saw. I’m a witness to anyone who claims you never clean it.”

“But you don’t want to come in and enjoy it?”

“Oh, part of medefinitelywants to come in and enjoy it,” she admitted because it was true.

Jill was so pretty, and Enid liked hanging out with her. She was also horny, so she knew that if they went inside and things started up, she’d have no problem finishing them, but something felt off about them doing this on their first date.

“Are you trying to be noble or something right now?” Jill asked.

Enid nodded and leaned in. She pressed her lips lightly to Jill’s and pulled back before it could go any further. That felt right for the night, and she hoped it would be okay with Jill as well.

“I’ll call you,” she told her when she took in Jill’s slightly annoyed expression.

“You better, because that was a weak kiss, Becker.” Jill lifted an eyebrow that had Enid rethinking the whole nobility thing.

She laughed and said, “I’m being chivalrous.”

“Chivalrous means taking care of a lady.” Jill smiled at her and let go of Enid’s hips. “I get it, though. Another time, maybe.”

“Good night,” Enid said.

She turned to go with a smile on her face, but when she got back into her car, she thought about that kiss. It had been chaste, and she could havereallykissed Jill. Why hadn’t she? Jill clearly wanted her to come in, and even if sex hadn’t been on the table, a hot make-out session had been, at least. Enid knew why she hadn’t gone inside. She knew why she had only given Jill that weak kiss. She pulled out her phone to check her messages, and finding one from Caroline, she lit up at the sight of the simple reply.

Caroline Timothy: Hi back. ;)

That winky face at the end of Caroline’s message had her smiling wider than she had all night on her date with another beautiful woman. Enid didn’t know what to do, so she put her phone away and drove home.

CHAPTER 10

Enid Becker: I’m not doing anything right now. Why?

Caroline bit her lower lip while she stared down at her phone. Jodie was leaning over her, reading the reply, too, as if she couldn’t wait for Caroline to tell her what Enid had said.

“Okay. See if she wants to hang out.”

“It’s barely ten in the morning. I can’t believe you stole my phone while I was peeing and messaged her.”

“You should’ve believed it,” Viv said from the bottom bunk below them. “I could’ve told you that.”

“When did you even see me type my password? I always use the face thing.”

“Please…” Jodie replied. “Your password is your dad’s birthday. Like that’s hard. I went to the party with you freshman year.”
