“If the choice is between me and Blue, you save Blue.” Mooky jabbed his finger against the half table to make his point. “She didn’t do anything. She doesn’t deserve this bullshit.”

“My contract is with—”

“I don’t give a rat’s ass. I will pay your fee. Blue needs to go free.”

Nate sat back in his chair, holding the phone with his shoulder.

“Dylan Holt is the cop,” Mooky said. “He’s got a hard-on for me right now.”

Just saying his name had Mooky clenching his fists. His blood turned to lava. Anger swamped him, and his vision stained red. He wanted to end that motherfucker. Nástrond was too good for him.

“What do you mean?” the lawyer asked as he leaned forward.

Taking a deep, calming breath, he had to push all the rage aside and explain the situation to Nate. Staying in jail wouldn’t fix a damn thing.

“He’s been showing up at the shop. He’s fucking Angela, for sure. While I was out of town, he went to all the club businesses. He’s been sitting outside my mom’s house when my kids are there. Then he started following Blue, apparently.”

Mooky’s pulse ticked faster and faster with each word he spoke. The fury boiled within him. Holt needed a reckoning. The idea that Officer Douchey McAss-face was on the outside with unfettered access to Mooky’s family had him raging inside.

“Stalking?” Nate asked as he cocked his head to the side and pulled a notepad from his briefcase. “Got any proof?”

Clenching his teeth to the point he thought one of them might have cracked, Mooky again tried to control his anger and focus on what his lawyer had asked.

He thought for a moment. “Mom’s got one of them doorbell cameras.”

Nate nodded. “I’ll get it. Odin’s Fury’s businesses have surveillance. I’ll work on this.”

Letting out a breath, the burden on Mooky’s shoulders eased slightly. If his lawyer could get him out, then he could handle things. He could protect what was his.

“This is going to take precedence over your divorce,” Nate said as he jotted some notes down on the pad.

Mooky scoffed. Like that mattered anymore. He only wanted the damn thing so he could be with Blue. That ship had motherfucking sailed. Regret gnarled around his heart and pinched his chest.

“As long as Blue gets out of this mess without charges.”

That was all that mattered in the immediate moment. He needed to fix this for her. He couldn’t be the cause for her life to go down the toilet. If he could clear this mess up, he’d gladly spend the rest of his days behind bars.

“If we can provide proof of stalking or harassment at your arraignment, I think I can get these charges dropped.”

“Bail her out.” Frustration laced Mooky’s words, giving them a sharp bite.

“What?” Nate looked up from his notes.

“Get her out of herenow. She doesn’t deserve to be in jail for a minute, let alone two or three days.”

What didn’t he understand about all of this?

Nate frowned. “I’ll see what I can do.”

“Do it.” Mooky stood and slammed the phone down on its hook, fully aware he may have made yet another unreasonable demand of Nate. It didn’t matter. Blue needed to be protected.

He was a criminal and deserved to be behind bars for all his crimes. Blue was innocent, just caught in the crossfire. Dylan was a reckoning of Mooky’s past. Blue had nothing to do with it and shouldn’t be tits deep in this nonsense.

But his kids.

Maybe his kids would be better without him too. It’d improve Blue’s life for damn sure. Star and River, they didn’t need to deal with his bullshit either. What kind of life could he offer them going in and out of jail like this?

He’d miss seeing them grow up, but a jailbird dad wasn’t any kind of father. He couldn’t do shit if he kept getting locked up. They didn’t need his baggage.
