At least she hadn’t slept through the alarm and lost another day. Though the idea tempted her. Calling in sounded stellar to her. She didn’t have anyone actually getting tattooed. So, they really wouldn’t miss her.

Blue tapped the screen and brought the phone to her ear.

“Hey,” she said in a sleep-laced voice.

“Oh, my God! Youarealive!” Sarah shrieked.

Blue rolled her eyes at her friend’s dramatics.

“Barely,” she groaned as she sat up, as though to accentuate her point.

She needed to call Stella. Hopefully, the prospect hadn’t been too douchey. Or the opposite. Jesus, she didn’t need to be the cause of another woman falling for the club. Especially considering Blue needed to get out of Dodge.

“What happened? Everyone’s talking but not really saying anything.”

Blue huffed and fluffed her hair. Of course they were gossiping—a bunch of fucking gossips.

Flashes of the previous night exploded in her mind as she rested her hand on her forehead. Absolute bliss obliterated once again. She didn’t want to get too far into it though.

“I got arrested and bailed out.” That summed it up nicely. No details needed.

“But for prostitution? Like, how does that happen? And who were you fucking? Were you fucking? Or was it just a—”

“Mooky!” Blue shouted into the phone, as though that would somehow stop the stream of words overflowing from Sarah’s mouth. “Jesus, it was Mooky.”

There went her hopes of not having to talk about it. But really, who was she kidding? Sarah would never let her skim on the details. The club knew everything, and by extension, the rumor mill at the clubhouse did too.

“I thought you…” her friend trailed off.

“Yeah, we did. And then we both got stupid.” Blue sighed heavily.

They were addicted to one another. Hopelessly hooked.

“So, what happens now?”

What a loaded question.

“I don’t know.” Blue wasn’t ready to answer that question.

Would she ever be? Not out loud, anyway.

Saying the words out loud for anyone to hear made them real. Her decision was something she had to commit to or answer for, neither of which she wanted to deal with before she had any semblance of coffee.

“I gotta pee. Talk later.”

“But wait—”

Blue tapped the screen of her phone and ended the conversation. Sarah would figure it out. Or they would talk about it another day. She had shit to do today. Mostly, she needed to call into the shop. If people were gossiping, she suspected they’d be prepared for her to not show up.

Shooting a text to Mammoth seemed like the easiest way to handle it. She didn’t want to actually have tospeakto anyone today.

Stella.

Shehadto talk to Stella.

Dragging herself from bed, Blue grumbled about being a good friend. Sarah had tried, and she shut her out. Stella had somewhat crossed the threshold from acquaintance slash mentor to friend and look where that got her.

Once Blue had done her business and brushed her teeth, she stared at her makeup-stained reflection in the mirror. Black mascara and eyeliner smudged and streaked down her cheeks. Remnants of her lipstick lined her lips. Though her false lashes had held together. That was some damn good glue. She had to make a note to buy that brand again.
