He thrusts into me once more, hitting a spot that sends pleasure through me like a tidal wave. “Say it again,” he murmurs, holding still inside me.
I kiss him chastely. “I.” Another kiss. “Love.” Kiss. “You.”
His mouth descends on mine, and he swallows my surprised moan, his tongue pushing past my lips and grazing mine as his cock pulses inside me. Our bodies move together, tension crackling between us, and I careen toward the precipice of pleasure.
“Come with me,” he grunts, his thrusts quickening.
“Yes,” I pant, clinging to him.
“That’s it,” he encourages, reaching between our heated bodies to tease my clit. The overwhelming sensations launch me over the edge, and I lose myself in him as he finds his release deep inside me.
The room is filled with the combined sounds of our pleasure, and I would do anything to stay in this moment of pure bliss forever.
Forever.
Except, I don’t have forever. Not anymore.
Tristan snags my chin, guiding my gaze to his. “Where did you go?”
I sink my teeth into my bottom lip. “I’m just having a moment,” I admit. “It keeps hitting me. I’m human again. I’ll grow up, aging every moment, and you… won’t.”
He frowns, freeing my lip with his thumb. “I wasn’t sure you’d be ready to talk about that, but we can.”
I lower my gaze. “What is there to talk about?”
“You should have had the choice to become fae. I want to give that to you. I’m not sure it’s possible to make you fae again after you underwent the procedure to revert to your human form, but it’s worth looking into—if that’s what you want.”
My heart beats faster at the idea of being fae again, and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it.
“It’s not something you need to decide right now,” he murmurs, leaning in to press his lips to my temple.
I nod slowly. “I’ll… think about it.” Needing the conversation to veer away from me, I say, “I’m not sure what family Max had, but if you have phone numbers, we should get in contact with whoever we need to.”
He frowns, tucking my hair behind my ear as his eyes dance over my face. Finally, he says, “He has a sister. Skylar should have her information.”
“Okay.” I snuggle closer as my eyelids become heavier and swallow a yawn. Now that I don’t have adrenaline or endorphins racing through me, and the room is quiet, exhaustion clings to every part of me.
“Sleep now,” Tristan murmurs. “We’ll talk more tomorrow.”
Pressing my cheek to his warm, firm chest, my eyes close, and I give myself over to the comfort of darkness, feeling safe for the first time in too long.
ChapterForty-Seven
Despite the delicious prelude, Tristan and I both slept terribly last night.
We can’t know that the Experiment was destroyed when that building was. There’s a good chance our fight with them is only just beginning.
After getting dressed, I head toward the guest room where Skylar is staying. I pause when Nikolai slips out of the room, closing the door behind him. “Hey,” I say, nodding toward the room. “How’s she doing?”
He shakes his head. “I’m worried about her.” I can see it in the lines on his face; he wants to help her, but he doesn’t know how. I’m glad she has someone—even if it’s the fae she often finds infuriating. Knowing firsthand how beneficial Nikolai’s support can be, it makes me feel better about giving the weight of my support to Tristan.
“How are you doing?” I ask to keep the conversation off of me. Recounting what happened to me in the facility last night with Tristan was hard enough. I don’t think I have the strength to talk about it again so soon.
He waves me off. “I’m fine.” Dragging his hand through his hair, he flicks his eyes across my face. “What about you and Tristan?”
“He’s hurting deeply. I’m doing my best to be there for him, but Max was like a brother to him.”
He steps closer, lowering his voice. “I’m worried aboutyou, Aurora. You’ve been through a lot in the last couple of weeks. You—”
