Five
SEER
“Looks like it was an electrical fire,” Blaze announces with his hand over the receiver of his phone while he still listens to the local Fire Chief.
I nod in his direction, but I keep my eyes on Leah.
She’s currently passed out on a couch a mere ten feet from me. She’s still wearing Nova’s jacket, and the jealousy that is causing me is absurd. Anyone within a five-mile radius of the inferno could see her nipples when we arrived. The brother was doing me a solid.
As if my thoughts were being broadcasted for the asshole to hear, Nova comes up behind me, gripping my shoulder before whispering in my ear.
“Want me to get my jacket back?” I can hear the smirk in his voice.
“Not until Kai gets here,” His chuckle when he pulls away is telling.
He’s up to no good.
I watch him closely as he snakes his way across to where Leah is sleeping and worms his hand into the side pocket of his jacket, which is especially close to her pelvis.
I’m on my feet before I realize it as he pulls away quickly and, with a fucking flourish, waves his phone at me. Leah never even woke.
“Asshole,” I hiss at him.
He blows me a kiss as he sits in a chair opposite it.
“I just need to check my messages, Prez. Business has been really good lately.” I roll my eyes at the club’s notorious playboy.
The front door flies open, and Kai rushes over to Leah.
I try and fail to hide my smile when the big lug crowds her space to check her over. He starts and stops speaking so many times that I wonder if he’s having a stroke.
“She’s ok?” Finally, words leave his mouth, and Nova scoffs.
“Define ok. She just lost everything she owned.” Nova stands and carefully takes his jacket off her body so as not to disturb her.
“Later,” he waves as Kai curses at her state of undress.
“Fuck,” he glances around the clubhouse and comes up empty.
“Here, it’s clean.” Mayhem produces a blanket from god knows where, and I sigh.
“Thank you,” I take it over to Kai, who places it over Leaah and then lifts her into his arms.
“No,” Leah starts to thrash about, and Kai almost loses his grip on her.
“Hey, hey. It’s just us, Baby. We’re taking you home.” Her big eyes scan my face and then fill with tears.
“Good job,” Kai groans as Leah dissolves into sobs.
“I…don’t…have….a…home,” the entire room freezes at her crying.
“Cher, that just ain’t true. We are your home. Let’s get you into a bed where you can sleep. We’ll worry about the rest later.” She calms and nods.
“Take my truck,” Cowboy throws me his keys, and I nod in appreciation.
“Kooper!” She pushes out of Kai’s arms, so suddenly, he stumbles to keep her from face-planting.
“How can I help Darling?” He takes off his hat and holds it to his chest as he waits.
