“Not you. I need Lacey. My computer,” she falls to her knees and cries into her hands.
“It has all my research. I can’t finish,” It’s hard to understand what she’s saying, but I get the gest and look up at my Vice President.
“I’m sure between them, Glitch and Cannibal can get something done. I’ll send her over later?” He looks at me for confirmation.
“Afternoon. We all need some sleep.” Cowboy nods and replaces his hat.
“Come on, Sugar.” Kai picks her up again, and she tries to protest.
“Baby, you don’t have any shoes on. Do you really wanna walk down Royal like that?” I see the shiver run down her body and envy Kai, who’s clearly enjoying the feel of her body against his.
He rolls his eyes at me.
“You drive,” Right.
That’s what I thought. He’s going to feel her body bounce on his lap the whole way home.
Fucker.
I start the engine and grip the steering wheel, watching my knuckles turn white as I slowly count to ten in my head. I don’t want to lash out at Kai for my body’s natural reaction to their bonding.
I’m next level turned on by it, and sometimes I express that with anger, which he loves to tease until I snap at him. Kai loves pain, and a good fistfight will get him off as much as a blow job.
“Problem, Cher?” He closes the passenger side door carefully so as not to hurt Leah, but I catch his flirty tone just fine.
“Nothing I won’t handle later.” I grin at him as I start moving the truck out of our parking lot and onto a crowded side street.
“Fucking move,” I growl at the drunken kids stumbling down the middle of the street.
The problem with living in the middle of the French Quarter is that every day, Mardi Gras is used by the out-of-town visitors. They don’t seem to understand it’s just a normal Tuesday morning in October right now, and the locals have places to be.
“Lord have mercy, it’s only ten in the morning.” Kai leans over and honks the horn at them.
“WE’RE WALKING HERE!” One of the group yells and slaps the hood of the truck before dissolving into laughter.
“Fuck,” I slam the brake when the idiot falls so I avoid hitting him.
“Jail might be worth it. He does realize this isn’t New York, right?” Kai mumbles as we watch the dude’s friends lift him and drag him to the sidewalk while waving apologies at us.
“No love. I don’t think they know they’re on Earth right now.” I shake my head and drive us the rest of the way home without incident.
Once I park the truck, I run around the front to take Leah from Kai.
“I’m at my limit,” I grumble at his coy smile.
“My room.”
It’s a demand, not a request, and Kai knows not to argue with me.
“Yes, Sir.”
