“This is going to be one hell of a story for our grandchildren.” She frowns a moment then her lip turns up.
A small giggle escapes her, and then we’re both laughing.
“Blood for blood?” She gasps between breaths.
“Too soon, Baby. That you can save for Kai, he’ll enjoy the visual picture.” I get up and get her a cloth to clean up, and then she dozes off.
I grab my phone carefully and text Kai.
How’s the house?
A few inches of water got in. I know I said I hated the tiles down here, but that was a good call.
I smirkat the memory of that argument. He wanted an expensive wood floor that I knew would get ruined.
We’re going to head to bed. I think the worst has passed.
We’re already snuggled up.
I watch the dots appear and disappear a few times before a message finally comes through.
Same bed?
Yes…
Clothed?
NOPE
Lucky fuck.
I laugh in the dark, quiet room.
The luckiest.
Chapter
Twenty-Four
KAI
“Hey, what has you smiling so big?” I look up at Phoebe and pass her my phone, trading her for the mop she was holding.
“That old dog. We’re trying to keep the house afloat, and he’s deflowering our virgin.” She snickers and tosses my phone on the couch.
“I’m happy for them. She needed the one-on-one with him before the crazy of us.” I point between us, and she snorts.
“You mean you. I’m normal, you kinky bastard.” I shake the mop, sending drops of water at her.
“Eww KAI!” I chuckle and go back to nopping up the last of the water.
“Do you think it’s over?” I point at the storm outside.
“No, that’s what I came to tell you. The weatherman just said it’s stalled out over us. We’re going to get a lot more rain.” I frown at the news.
“Fuck. Should we elevate everything and stay upstairs?” I look around at our furniture, knowing that if we get any more water in the house, they’ll be toast.
“I say we move as much as we can to the dining room and then get comfortable for a long ass night.” Her sigh of defeat sets my nerves on end.
