“My life with you is going to be interesting, isn’t it?” His face lights up as the door swings open.
“You have no idea.” He rushes me, suddenly scooping me up into his arms and leaving our bags forgotten outside while he carries me over the threshold.
“Welcome home, Mrs. Deacon,” he whispers in my ear in the dark entranceway.
The lights flash on, and several voices scream at us.
“SURPRISE!” A baby starts crying, and I panic, shifting my weight in Maddox’s arms, causing him to tilt sideways into the wall so we don’t fall on the floor.
“Ooof!” He hits his head, and then people hurry towards us.
“STOP!” Maddox yells, rubbing his head and checking I’m alright.
“Me? How’s your head?” I reach up to touch the red welt forming on his temple.
“What are you lunatics doing in my house!” He confronts the people staring at us.
“Abel,” the man that looks exactly like my husband says with a slight blush and grin that pops the same fucking dimple.
“Maddox,” I turn on him, and he raises his hands in defense.
“So remember I said I was a triplet, right?” I’m going to kill him.
“I’m letting Freckles sleep on your pillow.” His eyes widen at me.
“She met Sarah already?” The guy who’s apparently my husband’s identical twin asks.
“Maverick, not now. My wife is plotting to kill me.” Maddox tries to touch me, but I back away.
“Pops, he fucked up already. That’s a record, right?” My brother-in-law tries to tease Maddox, but I turn to face their dad.
“Did you know your son’s allergic to my pussies?” I get in the man’s face.
“Um, Maddox?” He looks helplessly at his child for help.
“Seems like something a parent should know. Or was it too hard with three at once?” I’m so irritated that I’m taking my anger out on anyone, and even though I know it’s irrational, the discomfort Maddox suffered makes me annoyed.
“I’m confused.” The twins look so much like this older man that I am secretly thrilled that Maddox will age this well.
“Bro, you found a girl with more than one?” Maverick tries to high-five my husband, who looks at him like he’s insane.
“Four, actually.” I cross my arms across my chest and look around for where I’ll put their cat tree.
“Jesus Christ. She’s talking about her cats,” Maddox exclaims and finally comes over and grabs my shoulders.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I didn’t think they’d ambush us.” He turns just as annoyed as me now.
“Is it true about identical twins? Is everything the same?” I size up Maverick.
I mean, from the way Tyler was able to switch on me, I’d say yes, but triplets are a whole new area for me.
How is this my life?
“Well, we’re triplets and identical, so some things vary.” Hmm, I watch Maddox shrug.
“What my dear brother is trying to say is that my dick is bigger.” I arch an eyebrow.
“Charlie!” their dad calls out.
