“In your dreams, asshole.” Maddox punches his brother’s arm, then shoves him out of the way to drag me into the kitchen, where the only two women are standing holding babies in their arms.

“Tobias, I swear to God if you boys wake these girls again.” The tall blonde woman stops talking to stare at Maddox and me.

Her eyes go right to our rings.

“So it’s true. Congratulations.” She doesn’t sound or look happy.

“Charlie, don’t be like that.” Tobias, my father-in-law, hugs who I can only assume is his wife.

“No, my children have excluded us from all their first. Mallory went and had babies without getting married, Maddox eloped, and Maverick still holds out hope for a girl from years ago. Where did I go wrong?” She starts to cry, and I watch as Tobias engulfs her in the world’s biggest hug.

“Way to go, bro. You’re offically the family fuck up. Thanks!” Maverick slaps his back so hard it jolts me.

“Sorry,” he whispers to me, and I frown.

“Remember when you said your family was normal compared to mine? I’m not seeing it.” I turn on my husband.

“Dove, we caught them off guard, is all.” He tries to reason with me, but I shake my head.

“You made me a promise,” I hiss, and his eyes flare.

“Everyone get the fuck out,” Maddox calls out, and his father growls.

“Watch your fucking tone, boy. Speak to your mother like that again, and I’ll put you back where you came from.” That makes no sense.

“Not sure that’s going to work. Nor would your wife appreciate it.” The room goes still, and they all stare at me.

“This bitch is crazy,” Maverick burst out laughing at me.

“Eccentric.” Maddox corrects him with a slap to the back of his head.

“Hey! We don’t use the C word around here,” Tobias yells at them.

“Cunt?” Maverick asks, and Maddox just sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“No that we sprinkle around like confetti. We are in a biker club, after all. You know, standards.” Mallory says with an eye roll.

“Excuse my brothers. They shared a placenta, so there is less oxygen in the brain. Welcome to the family. We’re all going to go now so you can settle in. We’ll see you tonight for dinner, though, right?” Now, her I like.

Mallory seems like the voice of reason in the sea of chaos that is the Deacons.

I think I’ll fit in here just fine.

“Iam not getting on that,” I smirk as I think of how she rode me on the couch after my family finally left.

“That’s not what you said earlier.” I wink at her.

“Maddox, motorcycles are a death trap.” I sigh and put my hands on my hips.

She’s wearing a pair of skin-tight jeans and a white t-shirt that clings to her breast in such a seductive way I want to throw her over my shoulder and head back to our bed.

“Dove, I’m the Road Captain of the club. You are my wife. It’s implied that you ride with me. So take a deep breath, put on your big girl panties, and hop on.” I swing my leg over the Harley and wait for her.
