“Same place we are.” I tugged on his arm. “To get weapons.” And to save Ozzie.

Because the other possibility I couldn’t bear to think about.

CHAPTER 35

Ozzie

Shards of window glass sprinkled around me as I dove off the couch. My phone flew from my hand, landing out of sight.

Momentarily stunned, I laid on the floor for a second to get my bearings.

What the hell just happened?

More glass shattered and hit the floor, but that sounded more like someone clearing what was left from the window frame.

A string of curses flew through my brain.

Turner had decided not to wait for me to figure out who was in the footage. But he’d been a few seconds too late. The rendering on my software finished moments before he shot out the window.

Think, Oscar!

Boots crunched on the glass.

Fuck!I was out of time.

My gaze zeroed in on my gun. It was on the table beside the couch.

Just out of reach.

Three shots blew through the back of the couch, the bullets impacting the wall several feet to my left.

My heart hammered in my throat as I flattened myself to the floor.

“I know you’re here, Oscar. I saw you through the window. You’d be dead if you hadn’t moved.” Footsteps came closer.

It was now or never.

Muscles tensing, I steeled myself, blanking out everything from my mind. No fear. No second-guessing. It was action, or I was dead.

I sprang to my knees and dove for my gun.

Bullets splintered the floor right behind my feet as I rolled away from the couch and behind my large leather recliner. I yanked the weapon from its holster and fired two quick shots in his direction.

I heard a thud as he dove for cover.

“You really shouldn’t have done that. You’re just making it harder on yourself, Oscar.”

I barked a short, mirthless laugh. “Sure. If you say so.”

“I do.”

Two more shots ripped through the recliner’s back.

I folded myself even smaller and edged as far to the side as I could. I needed better cover. Lifting my head, I gauged the distance to the kitchen. The island would provide not only cover, but I could skirt around it and get on his other side.

Shifting to the balls of my feet, I adjusted my grip on my gun.

Sucking in a quick breath, I pushed off. Arm extended, I fired three shots toward him as I dove.
