“Police are here,” Bash said as he rushed into the closet and shut the door.

Eloise looked at the closet door and then back at me. “Is he hiding?”

“Yes.”

“Why?” I hated how her body shook from shivers.

“He and the police don’t really get along.”

She rubbed the bridge of her nose.

“Headache, darlin’?”

“Yes. And its name is Blade.”

I nodded. “I get that a lot, actually.”

“From the other woman you’ve kidnapped?” she asked dryly.

I chuckled. “I have to say you’re my first felony.”

“Lovely.” She groaned.

“Heads up,” Leland called, tossing something at me.

Flipping it over in my hands, I realized it was a fake ID.Score.We’d probably confiscated this from some kid trying to get inked too young.

“Incoming,” Rogue said, sliding into the office and sitting in a chair beside Eloise.

“Alright, honey. For the next few minutes, you’re going to be Farrah Grace Adams. Memorize that address and birthday really fast, okay?” I said, handing the ID to Eloise and hoping the police didn’t study it too hard.

Chapter Two

Eloise

I really had to choose which of these things was a lesser evil. Blade and his odd friends or the police who would find out I was a missing person. I had come only an hour from my hometown and knowing what an evil man my ex was, I hadn’t come far enough. The mere thought of the hell he would unleash on me if he found me was enough to make my choice. Flipping the ID over, I quickly memorized the information on the identification.

“Howdy, folks,” an officer said, walking into the room. He was an older man with a portly belly. A younger officer stood slightly behind him.

“Hello, Officer Haddock,” Rogue said, shooting him a sweet smile.

“Well, hello, darlin’. How are you doing today?”

“I’m good. Thank you for asking. How is Ms. Haddock? Did her surgery go okay?”

“It did. She’s already back up and riding that damn horse.”

Using Rogue’s distraction, I studied the information a bit more.

“This is my friend, Farrah,” she said, introducing me.

Looking up, I smiled and stuck my hand out. “Hello.”

Officer Haddock shook my hand and smiled. His shoulders lost some of their tightness and his eyebrows weren’t furrowed anymore.

“Hello, Farrah. I think you’re just the woman I wanted to see.”

“Oh?” I asked, playing stupid.
