“So I’ve been told,” Caden drawled, and heat flooded between my legs.
“Caden’s sister, Jolene, is a professional photographer. You’ll meet her soon since she’ll be taking the pictures,” Leighton informed me. “Call me when the vision board is ready, and we can meet up.”
“Perfect. Have a good rest of your day, guys.” I waved before setting off in the direction of my car. My body tingled, and my breath caught in my throat. Caden’s eyes bore into my back, but I didn’t stop or look back.
The last thing I needed was a distraction. I was in town to do a job, nothing more.
When I reached my car, I hit the key fob and slid inside quickly. I leaned back against the seat and placed a hand on my chest, hoping my heart and breath would slow the fuck down.
A man had never caused such a stir inside me, and it was throwing me for a loop.
Knock, knock.
I jumped. “Ahhh!”
Caden stood there, sexy inked hands shoved in his back pockets as he grinned at me like he won a prize. He motioned for me to roll down the window.
My heart leaped in my chest. I quickly shoved the keys in the ignition, started the engine, and pressed the button for the window.
“Hey. I think you dropped this.” His voice was a low, deep growl, and when he held out my phone, my mouth fell open.
But how does he?—
“I saw it slip out of your pocket when you took off back there.”
“Thank you.” I smiled sheepishly and took the phone from him, our fingertips grazing.
When our skin touched, a spark flew up my arm, and I yanked my arm back as if I were burned. Caden chuckled, the sound more like a growl, and desire pulsed between my legs.
Fuck, what is going on? Why does this guy yield so much power over me out of nowhere? He’s a stranger, for fuck’s sake.
“No problem.” His intense, dark stare melted all my thoughts away along with my words.
If he moved one step closer, I might just kiss him, and there was no way I was letting that happen. I was here for business, not to flirt with the client’s friend.
Without another word, I waved and sped off, leaving Caden in a cloud of dust.
CHAPTER TWO
Caden
“Who was that?”Jolene, my sister, asked from where she stood at the bottom of Cash’s driveway. She had pulled in while I was walking back and now watched me while holding Sammy in her arms.
“Oh, just the event planner Cash and Leighton hired for the birthday party. She dropped her phone, and I was bringing it back to her.” I opened my arms, and Sammy leaped into them while giggling uncontrollably. I ruffled his hair. “Did you have fun with Auntie Jolene, bud?”
“Yes, ice cream!” Sammy clapped his pudgy hands together, and I laughed.
“Uh-oh, before dinner?”
Sammy giggled. “Shh!”
I laughed harder as we began walking up the driveway to the cabin. “Good job, Sis. Cash is going to love to know his son had ice cream before dinner.”
Jolene waved her hand, brushing me off. “He’s only a kid once, right? Besides, a little ice cream never hurt anyone.”
“Unciee A there,” Sammy said, and I looked over at Jolene, but she wouldn’t meet my eyes.
“He was? He had ice cream, too?” I asked Sammy.
