“Wrong answer,” Hazen says, before he charges forward and chaos erupts.

I turn to Freya.“Leave through the door at the first chance you get and run.”

She shakes her head.“No.We fight together.”

I open my mouth to argue, but a fist lands against my cheek, knocking my head backward.Ringing pierces my ears, and it takes me a second to get my bearings before I release havoc.

The only way we are getting out of here is by killing these dogs.

Chapter 39

Lucas

ImagesofFreyaandmy brothers flash in my mind.Watching Freya come apart below me, the way her dark-pink lips part and a soft moan falls from her lips.

We’ve been through so much heartache together, and there’s no way I’m leaving this world now.Even after she broke my heart and took my mother from me, I couldn’t walk away from her.I choose Freya, to be by her side through everything life throws at us.I won’t allow someone else to force us apart again.I’ll fight until my dying breath—for her, for them, and for us.Sure, I don’t believe in happily ever after, like in those stories I read to my sister when we were kids, but I do believe in forever with them.So that’s what I’ll fight for.

The blade of Bear’s knife digs into my neck.Warm blood trickles down my skin, and I decide his too-white teeth need knocking out.

“You really want to be a bitch and win this fight without giving me a chance?”I ask, raising my eyebrow.

Bear’s eyes narrow into slits before his tongue slides between his lips.“You’re a smart little pup, aren’t you?”he teases, pulling the knife back slightly.“You want a treat for being a good boy?”

I hold back my smart-ass reply before nodding.I’ll play his game, if it means giving me a chance to get out of here alive.

“Woof like a good boy for me, pup,” Bear says.

I bite into my bottom lip, shaking my head.No way in hell I’m doing that.

He smirks.“No treat for you, then.”He hums a tune, closing his eyes, and I take my chance.

I buck my hips.Bear loses his balance, falling sideways. He sits on the floor with a thud, and I jump up and ease backward.Bear laughs, getting to his feet, the knife in his hand.

“Fuck, I think I love you, my naughty little pup,” he says, and I roll my eyes.

“Drop the knife and fight me like a man.”

Bear brings the blade to his bottom lip, watching me closely, and I’m ready to bolt.My gaze shifts to the exit, and Bear follows my line of sight before dropping the knife on the floor between us.

“On the count of three, the first one to get the knife wins. Then it’s a battle to the death.May the best dog win,” Bear says, and before he starts to count, I move.Fuck him and his games.I’m taking charge.

I jump forward, grabbing the knife. As I grip the leather handle, Bear’s blood stains the blade from earlier.

“Naughty little pup.Such a bad, bad boy.”Bear purses his lips together.“You’re my new favorite.Wanna fuck?”Then he grins.

I charge at him.He doesn’t move as the knife plunges into the side of his stomach. He doesn’t fight or show any emotion. He just watches me.And then his eyes turn from bright green to dark in one blink.

Bear shoves me hard, and I stumble, falling on my ass.The knife is still imbedded in his stomach, blood oozing out, painting his white T-shirt red.He pulls out the knife without even an ounce of pain evident on his face.He brings the blade to his lips and licks off the blood, his eyes rolling closed.I need to move now, but I can’t.I’m stuck to the floor, watching this lunatic taste his own blood like it’s a drug.

His eyes glaze over.“You just stabbed me, and I still want to shove my dick in your ass.”

“You are batshit crazy,” I say, getting to my feet.

Bear drops the knife over his back, and it lands on the floor with aclink. He pulls his T-shirt over his head and drops it at his feet.Blood gushes out from his side, and at this point, I’m wondering how he’s still standing. Is he even human?

“I may be crazy, but you’re still my little bitch.Wanna come lick Daddy’s wounds, pup?”

He stands between me and the exit, and his gaze is locked on mine. But I need to get out of here—now.I’m done with him.
