Ty chuckled. “Alder always is.”
I made breakfast and two cups of coffee, setting one down in front of Ty. He looked up at me, apparently over the embarrassment of me walking in on him earlier.
“Thanks. Hey, I’m driving into Silford later to see a client. Do you want me to drive you to campus?”
“Is it out of your way?”
Ty shrugged. “A bit, I guess, but not much. Only five minutes. It’ll save you ages on the bus.”
“I don’t want to put you out.”
“You won’t.”
I gave him a shy smile. “In that case, yes please.”
He grinned back at me and I felt bold enough to ask, “What are you working on at the moment?”
“It’s a site for a local independent business called Sunflower Smiles. They sell hand-made crafts and candles which are really good. Last time I went over there, I bought a couple. I’ll get some more today. Alder liked the jasmine and honey one.”
I nodded. Ty would buy anything if Alder liked it.
“Are you updating or designing it from scratch?”
“I’m starting right from the beginning.” Ty actually chuckled to himself. “The owner isn’t very business-minded; he’s incredibly talented at what he does but he has absolutely no business-sense whatsoever. He recently hired someone to help him andhe’s actually the one who decided they needed a website.”
“They didn’t evenhavea website?”
Ty gave another chuckle. “I hear you.” He tapped his laptop. “They’ll have one now, though. All we need is a few tweaks to make it look pretty and they’ll be sorted.”
I looked across at Ty and studied his face. He was already checking something on his screen and didn’t see me watching him closely. He was handsome and kind-looking, and I may have let my imagination wander just a little bit.
I started when Ty suddenly asked, “What time do you want to head out?”
“Oh, I can go any time. It’s going to be a long day – I’ve got a couple of lectures this afternoon, too, and then a study group. Sometimes we go out after that, just for a few drinks.”
Ty nodded. “No problem. I’ll plate you up some dinner in case you’re hungry when you get back.”
Damn, this man was so incredibly thoughtful. Was it any wonder I was falling for him, whether I wanted to or not?
Chapter 5: Alder
Iknew that my boss, Waggoner, was in our office and I also knew that his alpha had memorised my timetable so he’d know when I was definitely out of the office, teaching my classes.
The obvious conclusion therefore was that Liam – the said alpha – would be in our office, doing unspeakable things to my boss.
Naturally, that meant I made sure to walk really quietly along the corridor and turn the doorhandle just as quietly.
When I threw open the door and stepped into the office, I was greeted by the sight of Waggoner bent backwards over his desk by his alpha, their mouths fused together. Luckily for me, they were both clothed. I might find it hilarious to sneak up on them and catch them making out, but I didn’t want to see any flesh. Ew, no thank you.
Also, I liked to check that they kept the office-based stuff PG-13 so I could be sure nothing nasty had touched my desk.
At the sound of the door crashing open, Liam spun around, growling. He moved his big body in front of Waggoner to shield him from view and I could see he was still lust-drunk and dazed. I wasn’t scared because I wasn’t actually scared of alphas – I’d taken some pretty extensive self-defence classes and could reduce any opponent to a jabbering wreck with one well-placed foot, something to which the asshole who’d mugged Waggoner a couple of months back could attest.
Still, I didn’t want to hurt Liam. I especially didn’t want to put his balls out of action, since, you know, Waggoner relied on them for his pleasure. I didn’t want to deny my boss a good dicking, since he was one of the greatest people I knew and he’d waited a long time for his chance of happiness.
It meant I took one step back and raised my hands, trying to let the alpha know that I wasn’t a threat. Much.
Liam blinked a few times and I could see him processing, coming down from his endorphin-induced high. The lust slipped from his face and he stopped growling, turning sheepish. He shuffled from foot to foot a bit and eventually said, “Um, hi Professor Gatwick.”
