“That’s okay. I’m happy here.”

“Good.”

My eyes were already drifting closed. Wilfred had really taken it out of me. I felt wrung out, in the best possible way. The last thing I remembered was pressing a kiss to the top of my man’s head before I fell asleep.

Chapter 13

Wilfred

Pete wasn’t a morning person. I wanted to laugh at the grumbling alpha but I resisted, thinking that would probably make him more grouchy.

“Remind me why you need to get up and I can’t have you here in my bed for the whole morning?” he asked.

Warmth bloomed in my chest like a sunflower. Somehow, Pete made me feel so… desired. I’d never had that before and I really, really liked it.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me back into bed after I’d just got up and used the bathroom. I found myself sprawled across him, his skin warm from sleeping pressed close to me. I wiggled around to get comfortable and looked up into Pete’s face. His eyes were closed, as though he fully wanted to go back to sleep with me on top of him.

My smile came out in my voice, I was sure of it. “I have to go to the shop.”

“It’s Sunday. The shop’s closed.”

“Yes, but I promised Alder I’d spend the day with him.”

One of Pete’s eyes cracked open. “Who’s Alder?”

“He’s a friend. We’re going to craft together while Ty sets up the CCTV.”

At that, both of Pete’s eyes opened. “Why is Ty setting up your CCTV?”

He sounded even more grumpy, but I wasn’t sure if that was because he didn’t like Ty or because he was starting to realise I really was going to have to go in to the shop, whether he wanted to stay here all morning or not.

“Um, because Alder made him?”

That was basically true. To be honest, I wasn’t sure why he was doing it. I hadn’t thought to ask. Because he was an incredibly nice person? That was basically it.

“Because he’s kind,” I added.

Pete grouched and mumbled to himself, and then I found myself being rolled gently off him.

“Fine. We’ll go to your shop. But I’m going to need coffee first.”

I grinned, wanting to sigh with how cute he looked, all grumbly and with bed hair. I thought I’d make it easier on him to ease into the day by going to the kitchen to make that coffee for him. I rummaged through the cupboards and the fridge and found some eggs, bacon and tomatoes, so I put them on.

Just as it was ready, two arms slid around my waist from behind and I found myself being hugged close. I leaned back into that hug, soaking it up. Pete’s strong arms seemed to encompass me completely, even though he wasn’t much taller than me.

I felt incredibly treasured as we stood there, Pete holding me tight and pressing small kisses to my temple and my cheek.

When he let go, I was disappointed.

“We’d better eat that before it gets cold. And before I decide to drag you back to bed and keep you there, no matter who you’re meant to be meeting.”

I barely resisted humming to myself as I plated our breakfasts and sat down at the breakfast bar.

Pete grunted, “I knew you’d be a morning person.”

“Yes. But I can keep quiet.”

He grunted again. “You don’t need to do that. Be yourself. I’m just a grumpy arsehole before coffee.”
