“So, when are you locking that girl down?” Rip turns and looks toward my Kens. She’s giggling at something Dagger just said. If I didn’t trust my men, I’d be worried he was trying to make a move on her. But we all live by the code. No one messes with another man’s woman. Does make me smile to see how comfortable she is here. I was nervous she was going to be tucked to my side all night, counting down the seconds until we could leave. On the contrary, I’ve barely gotten any time with her. May need to take her back to my room and remedy that.
“Going to ask her tonight,” I tell him. I’m ready to tie her down as fast as I can. Already lost eight years, won’t lose another minute.
“Shit, man.” He holds out his hand for a shake. “Congratulations.”
“‘Preciate it, brother. So, how are things going for you?”
He looks toward the hall, and I know exactly who he’s searching for. The girl he’s practically raised as his own kid.King’s daughter. A girl who has a hit over her head. “Still searching for Montoya,” he says, turning back. “He’s been quiet for too long. It’s not like him.”
Hearing that man’s name reminds me.
“By the way, a girl down at the strip club was talking about a new dealer in town. He’s selling meth. May or may not be Montoya, but we need to check it out.” Don’t like knowing there are drugs anywhere near my girl.
His back stiffens right up, and the tension is now driving down hard. None of us can stand drug-pushing scum. But when one of them has a hit over one of our own, we see red.
“I’ll send one of the guys down. See if we can’t get us some more information. King’s going to be heading out East for a few weeks, so we’ll lie low and gather intel. If you hear anything else, you let me know.”
“Will do, brother.” My attention is drawn back to my girl as if it’s been too long without a breath of her. I’m ready to have her alone. To get those radiant eyes back on me. I don’t want to share her smiles anymore. My jealousy for her attention only rising as she throws her head back and laughs at something Cage has now said. “It’s time for me to get that little one to bed.”
He chuckles low, shaking his head. “You look like you want rip Cage’s eyes out.” It’s not a far stretch from what I’m feeling. “All right, man. It was damn good seeing you, brother.” He pulls me in for a hug. Pounding me on the back. “Don’t be a stranger.”
Don’t plan on it. But I’ll need a few weeks locked at home with my girl. Then we can resume life.
I stalk right over and snatch her up, tossing Kens over my shoulder. She yelps and giggles, giving me grief about being a barbarian as I take her back to my room. I’d take her home to the cabin, but I can’t wait that long. I need her now.
I turn the lock and place her on my bed. She scrambles to her knees. “That was rude, Sean. I was in the middle of a conversation.”
“I’m done sharing you for the night, babe. I was getting jealous of my men gettin’ all your attention.”
Her eyes soften and she leans in, brushing her lips against mine, sending a shiver of lust skirting over my nerves. “You have my attention now. And just so you know, we were talking about you.”
“Is that so? What was Cage sayin’ about me?”
She leans in, placing another gentle kiss to my lips, sending another shiver down to my cock. “That you’re amazing. But I already knew this.”
“They think you’re amazing too.” Her cheeks brighten at that. It’s a damn relief that she’s happy here because I won’t be coming to the clubhouse without her. “In fact, they all asked when I was going to make you my old lady.”
Another blushing smile lifts her pretty lips, and I press my mouth against them, wanting to taste her happiness on my tongue. Wanting to feel it trickle down my spine.
“So, what did you tell them?” she asks, her voice breathless now. Eyes struggling to open past the weight of her need.
“Told them I was puttin’ a ring on your finger tonight.”
They open fully and she lets out a gasp as I drop to one knee. I pull the ring from my pocket. I’d bought it for her years ago. I was going to ask her when I went to campus, hoping to win her back with a promise of forever. But then I stupidly walked away.
“How did you get that? We’ve been together the entire time.”
“Bought this for you years ago. Always knew you were the one, Kensington. From the time you showed up in my backyard and took my hand, telling me your name, telling me we were going to be best friends, I’ve loved you. I regret the choices I’ve made along the way and the time we lost. And I don’t want tolose any more of it. I want to start building our life together. Start building the life we dreamt of. So, what do you say, baby? Will you marry me?”
And there it is. The look I’ve been praying for. The one I wasn’t sure I’d ever see again. But the love is burning deep. The love in my heart even deeper. This time, I will never let it burn out. I will stand by her side through thick and thin, and fight for us every day. Fight to earn her trust. Fight to replace all the shitty memories with happy ones.
“Yes, Sean. I’ll marry you.” I’m almost shocked by her answer. I knew it was a risk asking so soon, but my need to lock her down was burning a hole in my chest as much as the ring was burning one in my pocket. But she just put my worries to rest. And now, it’s time to show her that she’ll never live to regret her choice.
“It’s us now.” I slip the ring on her finger and stand, looking down into the eyes of my dreams. “Forever and always.” Just like it was always meant to be.
