“I’ve got to go tell Reaper something. I’ll catch you later, Cameron.”
“Ok.”
I strolled through the sea of people and made it to Reaper and Abby.
“Aren’t you drinking, Abby?” I noticed the bottle of water she was hanging on to.
“Nah, not tonight,” she smiled at me. “I heard you guys had a boring trip.”
Looks like Reaper wasn’t telling her what went on.
I glanced at Reaper, and his eyes were pinned on me.
I took a sip from my drink. “Every ride to Kelly is a boring one.”
“Sounds like you had as much fun as me.”
“I’m going to go to the bar, Reaper, you want another?” I asked him.
“Nah, we are heading home. You keep the boys in line.” He put his empty can to the side and Abby jumped off.
“I’ve just got to get something from my office. You ok?” Reaper let go of Abby.
“Yep, I’ll be fine.” She gave him a smile.
Reaper was gone for a minute, and then Abby turned to me.
“So what's wrong with him?” She crossed her arms and stared up at me.
Knew she was on to it. “Nothing. He’s most likely tired. It’s a big ride.”
“Or something happened that he isn’t telling me.”
“Nothing happened.”
“Fine then, in that case,” she leaned up and kissed me on the cheek. “Thanks for looking after him.”
“Always.”
“Ok, I’m ready to go. You got your stuff, babe?” Reaper was holding a folder and snaked an arm around her waist.
“I’ll see you guys later.” I watched them walk out, and I knew it was only a matter of time before he crashed.
Abby
Reaper was quiet when he got home. Something was wrong, but I didn’t know what. I stared at the kettle as it boiled. He was taking a shower while I was making us coffee. The last couple of days he had been distant on the phone, but I thought it was just the ride back that was doing it to him; now I wasn’t so sure.
I poured the hot water into the cups and headed upstairs. I walked into our bedroom. The shower was off so I knew Reaper was out.
“Coffee’s done.”
Reaper was standing in the en-suite door frame, holding something.
“Reaper?”
He slowly turned around holding the stick. My eyes doubled and I dropped the cups.
“Is there something you want to tell me, Abby?”
