Reaper

She was sound asleep. I knew she said she was tired, but I didn’t expect her to sleep as late as she was. Couldn’t pull myself out of her bed either. I was using the excuse that if I moved, I’d wake her. Her and my baby needed sleep.

She was asleep on my arm. I ran my hand down her side, and she pushed back into me. I liked the way she did that. Like having me here was helping her sleep. My hand stopped on her stomach. On the life she was creating. The life I had put there.

It was impossible to love anyone this much, wasn’t it?

I was willing to let her be with him if that made her happy. But she didn’t seem happy. She told me she didn’t love him. So something else was keeping her connected to him, and I was going to find out what that was and break it.

If Daniels was some dead weight she was being forced to keep around, I’d find a way to get rid of him.

After all, she said she didn’t love him.

She said she loved me.

So what was keeping her from me? From us bringing this kid up together?

Her phone started ringing on her bedside table and I cursed. The last thing I wanted was for her to be forced to wake up. I reached over her to turn it off, but it was already too late. She stirred in my arms.

“What time is it?” she said half asleep, yawning.

“Doesn’t matter, go back to sleep.” I kissed her cheek, silencing her phone.

“It does matter. I have to be somewhere at ten.”

“Hate to tell you this babe, but it’s after one.”

She sprang up in bed. “You’re joking, right?”

“Nope.”

“Why the hell did you let me sleep so long? And why are you still in bed?” She threw the blankets back but after one glance at her naked body, there was no way I was letting her leave this bed. So I dragged her back.

“What’s the rush?” I kissed up her neck. “I know a better way we can spend the afternoon.” Now I had her, I never wanted to let her go.

“Reaper.” She groaned.

“You normally call me Kade.”

“Fine. Kade. I have to get up.” She pulled my head from her neck, looking into my eyes. “Like I was meant to be somewhere three hours ago. I wonder why he hasn’t called me.” She frowned and got out of my grasp.

“Where is more important than here?”

“I have to get all this shit dropped off.” She waved around the room. “I was meant to be borrowing the van this morning. Brad is going to be pissed that I’m taking it this afternoon.” She pulled on a pair of shorts. “I arranged it for this morning. God, I don’t know why I slept so much.”

“Because you needed it.”

“I swear I haven’t slept that much in like-” she frowned. “Actually, I don’t remember the last time I had a good night’s sleep.”

I threw the blankets back and got up, handing her a bra. “Well from now on, you sleep with me.”

She shook her head. “I’m still with Daniels.”

“I don’t care about him.” I was lying. I cared a fuck load about him. I wanted him dead. “During the night, you’re with me.”

“You actually want to be my man on the side?” She looked at me, amazed. “Why?”

“Because,” I pulled her into my arms. “I want you sleeping. I want you resting, but most of all, I want you. Even if I only get you at night, that’s better than nothing. Now are you going to tell me why you can’t break up with this prick?”
