And more importantly, how and why she was hurt.

Chapter Twenty

CAGE

The doctors greeted Hawk at the door with security, before we were shown to a private waiting room. While Hawk demanded to see Autumn, the doctors said they needed to get her treating doctor.

Finally, after some time, the man who was suppose to talk to us showed up but he wasn't alone. Following him was the mother fucking police.

“Keep your shit together Hawk,” I muttered beside him. Then looked at Jacob, he nodded his head. Agreeing to keep his shit together too but also telling me he was ready to pin Hawk down as soon as they told him what had happened to Autumn.

It was clear they thought Hawk was going to take the news badly.

Which made my heart pound with nerves. I needed to know and if they didn’t hurry the fuck up, I’d be the one snapping and being arrested.

I couldn't help it. I’d willingly do a second sentence for Autumn.

“Hawk Watson?” The doctor put a hand out and Hawk shook it. “We have your daughter being treated by us, Autumn Watson.”

“No it’s Bentley,” Hawk said correcting them. “Autumn Bentley.”

The doctor frowned glancing down at her records. “No her last name is clearly Watson.”

Jacob gripped Hawk’s arm. “Autumn changed her last name when she did the adoption papers.” That little fact sent shock across Hawk’s face— like he couldn’t believe she would willingly take his last name.

Hawk didn’t say anything but it clearly tore him up a little on the inside. He looked back at the doctor. “I want to see my daughter.”

The doctor forced a reassuring smile. “Autumn was found in an alleyway Mr Watson.” Then the doc inhaled, exhaled, “Sadly there were clear signs of assault. Physical and sexual.”

And with those words the doctor stepped back behind the police guards, and Jacob and I gripped Hawk, by the shoulders, expecting him to launch himself at someone— anyone, just to get his rage out. Instead he remained deadly still.

He didn’t move.

And Jacob and I removed our hands off him.

His fists clenched at his side. He nodded his head and the police and doctors left. Leaving the three of us by ourselves.

Jacob didn’t say a word.

“She’s never going to forgive me for this.” Hawk spoke, and the pain was wrapped around each word. He knew, and I knew, and so did fucking Jacob— Autumn wouldn’t come back from this. And if she did, she wouldn’t want anything to do with the club.

“You all go see her.” I glared at the ground and then looked up. “I’ll make this right Prez.” And I was going to. I knew she was suppose to meet that gym owner tonight.

I would make this right. Because God knows there wasn't shit else I could do for her. I couldn’t comfort her like a boyfriend would. But I could do what I was now good at— killing. If there was one thing that came out of my prison sentence, it was ice in my heart which led me to making ruthless decisions.

And right now I was thankful for it.

“I’m coming.” Jacob ran his hands down his face. “She’s my sister. I sent her there. This is on me.”

“Nah, I gave the orders,” Hawk said.

“Why you two fight about it, I could be getting it fucking done,” I hissed at them.

They both looked at me like who the hell was I to step up andavenge this. And yeah maybe I was never going to be a good enough man for her. But the type of man she deserved, well he wouldn't be capable of handling this, like I could and was going to.

Jacob had never taken a life, and in some ways when I walked out of that waiting room. I was going to save his life as well. Because you change, when you take a life. The darkness swallows you, and you begin to walk a life in the grey. There is no black and white. Just a whole lot of fucking grey.
