I couldn’t stop myself from looking in Viper’s direction and I noticed. He had no expression on his face. I had just shown a side of my history I never wanted to relive.
So I just let Reaper’s daughter pull me from the chaos of a scene I had just starred in.
I met Abby. She seemed nice. But busy. Something about a club party. Which left me with Eve. I had a feeling like her brother, she kept a side of herself, locked behind walls.
“So being the Reaper’s daughter mustn’t be easy?” I asked, taking a sip of the drink she had gotten me. While looking at the upside vests that hung on the wall.
Eve sunk into an armchair.
“Being the daughter of the mayor, mustn’t be easy.”
I gulped on my drink and then looked at her. “She isn’t my mother.”
“Well being the stepdaughter of a meth dealer, wouldn’t have been easier either. Not to mention your step mother.”
I looked down at my glass. “My dad wasn’t always like…” I paused and then looked at Eve. “Dad and she were happy until dad started using. You know my stepmother used to be a club whore here?” I called it as it was.
“My dad has been determined to keep meth from our city. So if it means anything, they’ll know better and leave.”
I shook my head. “You don’t know my father or my stepmother's true colours.”
“No, but I know my dad.” She grabbed a pack of cigarettes from the table. “Can I ask you a question?”
I frowned. Odd she would have a question for me.
I sighed. Assuming it was to do with my fucked up family.
“Sure.”
“How did you get over it?” Her eyes were on the table. “I overheard dad speak about…” she looked up at me. “Your stepbrother.”
The rape.
“I didn’t. I shot him. Did your dad leave that part out?” I felt the need to put my walls up. But my Empath ways could feel she was carrying her own story. “Time,” I added. “I slowly had to accept it wasn’t my fault. I kept it to myself for too long. That was the real issue.”
She lit up a cigarette. “My sister’s boyfriend raped me drugged me and,” she didn’t need to finish the sentence. “Hannah still doesn’t know the full story.”
My Empath ways made me take a seat across from her.
“She is engaged. I think she’s forgiven you.”
She looked at me with tears. “She has, and that’s what is making me sick.”
I went to comfort Eve. I just had a strong feeling she isn’t the woman that opens up to anyone. I always had this habit to make people feel comfortable with me.
But before I could say a word. The front door opened. Eve blinked the tears down and ran her hand across her cheeks. Just like that, she looked like the ice queen she put up the impression of being.
“Aurora, this is Hannah, my sister.”
I looked up and was taken back by the state of her.
“Are you okay?” Is how I greet her.
Eve even was concerned. “Hannah, what the fuck is wrong?”
“Brad.” She sputtered out through tears. “A man went through a stop sign.” She broke completely and Eve was quick to get up. “I can’t go to the hospital. I don’t want to… I can’t… I,” Eve hugged her twin. Basically holding her up, as Hannah's heart broke. I could feel it. Through her expression, her tears.
There was nothing I could do. But as she broke. I was reminded of when Dee broke me.
