“First off the line,” I said and smiled. “I wouldn’t give up on this car either.”
This was the first car that came off production. Sure it was in pieces but it was the heart of something that couldn’t be priced.
I looked back at Kingston. To find that he is looking directly back at me.
“You’re odd.” He grunted out the two words. “Not East’s type.”
“I’m not anyone’s type,” I replied and took one tool off him to give him the other.
“So Amber is Abby’s sister. Which makes you her nephew.” I joined up the family tree. “You sure are a different type of family.”
He was silent.
“I always wanted that.”
He didn’t look at me.
“A family?” he asked.
“No,” I gestured my head to a sign across the garage.
He turned and looked back at me.
“A stop sign?”
“Yeah,” I grinned at him. “I just will never have the courage to steal one off a corner. Because I’m worried about an accident and it being my fault.”
“You’re odd.” He noted again.
I shrugged my shoulders.
“Guess so. But I’d rather be true to myself than something I’m not.”
He began to start work on the car again. And I just stood beside him. His aura was calm, scarred but calm. I couldn’t explain it but I just had a feeling this man only felt two emotions. Rage. Calm. That was it.
The garage door swung open abruptly.
“Already Eve’s demanding that I hand you over.” East strolled in. “Sorry for leaving ya with Kingston. I see he didn’t cause you to run.”
“I like him,” I said and pushed myself away from the car. “Bye Kingston,” I said, and I didn’t expect a reply.
East walked out behind me.
I heard Eve talking to Weston on the porch.
“Aurora?”
I spun around.
East’s expression is tight.
“Scarlett hasn’t answered one of my calls or messages. I’m worried.”
I felt his anger by his silence but also his concern. So that was why I was going to give him a way to get to talk to him.
“Tell her I was dropped in at Satan’s Sons. Left the same day. I won’t be returning.” I paused. “Also tell her, you spoke to me and I said… It's okay. I understand why she did it.”
I felt the heaviness of a brick suddenly in my heart because I had just lied.
