I kept smirking as I pulled down a navy long-sleeved top. It was thin material. And a V-neck, which meant my cleavage would maybe increase Jax’s suffering. I slipped it on and then grabbed a plain short black skirt.

“What happened to you not fucking me until you got your weekend?” I turned around, pulling my skirt up.

His expression was tight. “Not a weekend. A week.” Seems someone was now counting on that week. “And that plan is out the window, if you are wearing underwear like that and I know about it.” His eyes flashed down me and his expression got firmer. “You are not wearing that!”

I looked down at what I was wearing. “This is causal, Jax.”

“I have a clear view of your cleavage and don’t act like you don’t know it,” he gritted out. “Do you want me to be more focused on you than Jack?”

“No, we both know you are deflecting.” I looked at him sharply and walked toward him. “You are nervous about seeing Jack and I get that.” I gave him a smile “I’m sure you will learn to cope with what I wear.”

I went to walk around him but he stood in the doorframe, crossing his arms and being dominate.

“When will this week happen?”

“Well, about that, it might not be a full week.”

He groaned. “Don’t tell me you have to fucking work or something.”

I grinned. “No, it’s not that.” I went up to my toes in front of him. “You might have to settle for blocks during the day.” I kissed his lips. “We have a son and I don’t feel safe with anyone looking after him.”

“Yeah, I already considered that a possibility.”

I frowned at him. “You did?”

“Yeah, why you so shocked?”

I grinned. “Because that’s something a parent would do.” I poked him in the ribs and snuck around him. “So, how would you feel about a nine-to-three time slot?” I went to my bedside table and clicked Jack’s necklace around my neck, and then I went to put on my ring. Then I stopped.

It wasn’t an engagement ring. Will and I never got engaged. But he did give me a promise ring. And I was staring down at it now. It was simple, a purple stone in the middle of a white golden band, which had diamonds running up each side.

I should give it back to him. Let him return it or take it to a pawn shop or something.

“Six hours with you, I’m sure we can start to make up for our time apart.” Jax’s voice caused me to stop staring at the ring.

I should put it in one of the boxes. But just abandoning it in a box didn’t seem right.

I jumped as Jax’s arms went around me.

“You okay? What you are staring at?”

“Just something I need to give back to someone.” I turned in his arms and shut my hand, keeping the ring from sight. “My brothers will be wondering why you aren’t downstairs barking orders at them.”

He stared down at me. “When it comes to them, are we keeping us a secret? I understand if you want to.” His hand moved up my back. “It’s up to you, sweetheart.”

I smiled. “I think my brothers might pick up on the fact that as soon as Jack goes to school, you will be kicking them out.”

His hand went to my closed palm. I sighed. Nothing I did ever got past him.

He opened my hand and his eyes were on the ring.

Okay. Well this didn’t have to be awkward. “It’s just a ring Will gave me. I was thinking I need to give it back to him. For him to pawn or whatever.”

He frowned.

I sighed. “It isn’t a big deal, Jax. Stop looking at me like the ring means something.”

“You’re used to wearing it?” His eyes were still on me.
