“You saying I won’t wake up to you gone?”
“I was in the shower, Jax. I wasn’t gone.”
He reached out for my hand. “I’ll just have to keep the fact you’ll be falling asleep in my arms tonight running through my head and hopefully that stops me from touching you.”
He slowly let go of my hand. And I knew that meant he was ready.
I opened the door and took a deep breath in and then turned to face him. “I have a shit load of stuff to get done before Jack gets here. So, don’t take it personal if I’m busy.”
A smirk spread across his face. “Am I going to get to see you do housework? I don’t remember you ever cleaning.” His hands went to my hips, as he walked behind me. “Is it okay if I touch you when no one is looking?” His mouth went to my ear. “You know, sneaking around? Like we did when we were first together?”
I giggled. “Oh, just when I thought you had grown up.” I came to a stop at the top of the stairs. I could hear my crew downstairs. “Um, Jax?”
He was kissing my neck. I think he was more focused on how he could sneak around with me. I knew how he thought.
I turned around, his lips coming off my neck. “You are about to see a different side to me. I really hope it doesn’t scare you.”
He arched his eyebrows. “What are you trying to say? You are about to turn into a vampire?”
I shook my head. “Something worse.” I took a deep breath, while he looked at me slightly confused. “A corporate mom.” I turned around and took the stairs.
I had to put Jax and me to the side and focus on work and then Jack.
Okay, I can do this.
Chapter 14
Amber
I didn’t have one second to take a deep breath in. I needed to focus. My kitchen was buzzing with my staff. As for my brothers, they were watching me like an alien that had just landed. The wouldn’t stop staring at me. I also felt another pair of eyes on me.
Jax’s.
I spoke fluent Chinese into the phone, talking to one of our investors. While my staff tried their best to get everything I needed to do in a week done in a couple of hours, I was arguing the pros to our contact. While our investor argued the negatives, it was all stalling because I was waiting for a number to give him.
Just as I was listing one of the many reasons our contact was the one to go with, Beau slapped a figure on Jack’s pillowcase I had just folded. I gave them the figure and that ended that conversation. I pulled the headset out of my ear and handed it to Beau.
“Okay, Amber. You are going to panic. But I don’t want you to panic.” Chelsea was at my side as I continued to pull out Jack’s sheets from the basket.
“Shoot, Chels.”
“Okay, I fucked up.” She was holding her clipboard tighter. “Well, not just me, all of us, and it has come to my attention now.” Chelsea followed me, just as I handed Jack’s sheets and stuff to Liam.
“Thanks, Liam.” I said. “I swear, as soon as we are back in the office, I’ll never expect for you to make my son’s bed again.” I kept a smile on my face and spoke nicely to one of my interns.
“Don’t worry, Miss Shields. I love Jack.” Liam gave me a smile and took off up the hall.
I turned to Chels. I was well aware that three people were standing to my right, with phones and laptops, all waiting for my attention.
“Okay. What’s the problem I’m not allowed to panic about?” I quickly walked into the kitchen.
Chelsea had worked with me so long, she could keep up with me as I did a thousand tasks at once.
I pulled the mixing bowl out.
“Um, it’s the figures for the Myer’s account?” Chelsea’s voice was wavering in nerves and I had a feeling it wasn’t Troy giving them to her.
But Troy’s eyes were on her. Well, he was staring equally at her and me.
