“I have it.” I reached into my pocket and then shot a glare at Jax. “In my phone, which is now in pieces.” I sighed. “Can someone organize me a new phone? Lisa, I want you in my emails. Narrow the search down to the titleParis. Chelsea, I want the balance of the Myer account and ready to send. Lisa, Zed’s number should be in one of the emails.”

“Are you really going to call Zed?” Chelsea questioned me. “He is cut throat, Amber. He isn’t going to take the Myers on.”

“I’m not handballing the dead account.” I got out the apple pieces.

“Got his number,” Lisa said, bouncing out of the chair.

“Dial it and put it on loud speaker.” I started to line the pie dish with pastry.

Everyone was busy listening to it dial.

“Zed,” he answered rudely and his tone would shock anyone.

“Zed, it’s Amber,” I said, while my attention was on the pie I was making.

“Amber, it’s not your number.”

“I broke my phone.” Which wasn’t fucking true. Thanks to Jax and his temper, I was without all my contacts.

“Well, Amber, let me guess. It’s about Paris?” His tone went from unfriendly and rude to delighted. “You know you and Jack will love it.”

“You know, I don’t know whether to be insulted or flattered about that. Seriously, it’s been three months. You’re starting to get desperate, Zed.”

“I’ll increase the wage. I always said you were more of a million-dollar executive.” Zed’s voice dipped into charm.

“Still not interested, Zed.”

“Come on, think of the schools for Jack? He would love the country and the education he will get will be one of the finest.”

I stopped lining my pie. “That’s exactly why I won’t take the job, Zed. Jack’s getting the best education here and you know that. So, don’t try and convince me a French private school will give my son a better education than Saint Thomas’.”

He laughed. “You always did your homework. Shouldn’t surprise me you researched for Jack’s school. You know Saint Thomas produced ninety percent of the highest-paid businessmen last year?”

“Yep.”

He sighed. “Of course, you did. Well, I guess that means it is my loss. So, if it isn’t about Paris, why do I get the pleasure of talking to you?”

“Myer Fryer.”

“Oh, yes, I’ve heard. How much you down?”

“Enough to sink the company.”

He laughed. “Well, won’t you make the top of Rebecca’s Christmas card.”

I cut the pastry off around the pie dish.

“You want some payback, Amber? You know, I always knew you would come to me to blacklist an account.”

“Come on, Zed. We both know I’m not paid enough to care that much.”

“Okay, well, if the Myers’ account is as bad as I heard, I can’t pull you from that.” Zed’s voice went serious. “But I can offer you a job.”

“Thanks, Zed, but I like Rebecca and you know I’m loyal to her. So, I’m not asking you to help pull me out. I’m writing it off as a loss.”

All my staff gasped.

“Amber, that will sink the Rebecca’s company. You realize that, don’t you?” Zed felt the need to say what all my team were thinking.
