“So, why were they all here?” Tyler decided to question me.

“Because I needed to work but I also needed to make my pies,” I said, and they all looked at me like I had proven their point by saying that.

“So, little sis, let me get this straight?” Adam leaned forward, sitting at the other side of the kitchen island on a bar stool. “You deal with millions and billions of dollars?”

“Yes.”

“And today you lost half a billion?” Adam questioned me.

“Correct.”

“But you ended up making billions?” Tyler added.

“Since when did my brothers get interested in math and business?” I arched my eyebrows and looked at each one individually.

“You nearly cost Chelsea her job.” Troy decided to enter the conversation.

I rolled my eyes. “Chelsea will never lose her job.”

“Troy, stop. We need to get back on target,” Adam snapped and him and turned back to look at me. “So, you dealt with all that money, losing, gaining all that. Do you find it one bit odd that you wouldn’t even give the fact you’re dealing with all that money more than a minute of your time today?”

I frowned. I wasn’t understanding.

“We are talking about your fucking obsession with the pies, Amber!” Cole snapped at me getting to the point of their argument. “You don’t fucking bake or cook. So, why did you care more about making those pies than the millions and billions of dollars you are in charge of?”

I looked down at my pies. They meant so much more to me than my job. I looked up and my brothers’ eyes were still on me but so were Jax’s.

They all were waiting for an explanation. I guess anyone would be questioning why I was so focused on making pies, instead of my job, which earned me a shit load of money.

I ran my hand through my hair. “I have money,” I said simply. And I didn’t need to make more money today. I just needed my work done and off my plate so I could focus on Jack for the next few days.

I didn’t know how he was going to react to meeting Jax.

And I was starting to get more nervous about it.

“Clearly, you have more money than me,” Tyler muttered and then his face lit up. “You wouldn’t want to give your brother a loan?”

“Let me guess, one you never pay back?” I asked with a grin.

His smile got wider. “I thought I’d have to support you. Never thought I could leech off you.” Tyler was delighted with new plan.

And then I heard it.

I think everyone heard.

Like everyone in the neighborhood and city had heard the roar to those engines.

I took a steady breath in, hearing them get closer.

“Looks like it’s time for Jax to face his fate.” Cole smirked at Jax, enjoying every second that Jax was anxious.

My eyes darted to Jax, who looked calm. Leaning back against the kitchen table, his eyes looking up the hall toward the front door.

“Jax, you okay?” I asked.

He looked at me and nodded.

The house basically started shaking as the motorcycles came to a stop outside out house.
