I bit my lip. I knew he going to do his best to be back in time. “Okay.”
“All right, I’ve got to go.” Will let go of me.
“I’ll walk you out.”
“No, actually, I need to have a word with Troy. But I’ll see you in eleven days.” He kissed my lips and I frowned as I watched him walk out, Troy gave me a look before he passed me, following Will.
“Do you know what that’s about?” I asked the boys. And they just shrugged. Why would Will want to speak with Troy?
Chapter Three
Troy
By the time I stepped outside that morning, I thought nothing could surprise me. I still couldn’t get over the shock of Amber having a kid. My little sister a mother. I shook my head. Unbelievable.
Will closed the front door behind us.
I looked out from porch, watching the rain bucket down on my bike.
“Shit weather, right?” Will said.
I didn’t know the dude. But I knew he cared for Amber. She had let him in her new life. So, respecting her decision to trust him, I was going to be polite. I nodded.
“Look, this is awkward and I wouldn’t have mentioned it but you guys being here, well…” He paused. “Amber doesn’t like police.” He was saying that like I didn’t know that.
I arched an eyebrow at him. “Your point?”
“The police are watching her.”
Amber and her crimes. “What’s she done?” I knew it wasn’t believable she was working a nine-to-three job and not in trouble.
“Nothing. It’s not her, it’s me.” Will rubbed the back of his neck, frowning. “Do you know the Matthews brothers?”
“The bank robbers?”
He nodded. “And all the other shit they get up to.”
“What about them?” Both brothers were currently being held for their latest fuck up. Which was the story of the men’s lives. One giant fuck up after another. Somehow, they always got off the charges.
“Well, I’m going up against and the death threats have mainly been directed at Amber.”
“They’re threatening Amber?”
“They’re getting desperate, wanting me to back down,” Will said like that was the last thing he was going to do whether it meant Amber’s life was in danger or not. I had misread this guy. He cared more about his career than he did Amber.
“So, you have the police watching her?” I put two and two together.
“Yeah, but you guys are in town, and I’m hoping you wouldn’t mind hanging around until the case is over. The more eyes on her the better.”
Well, I knew for a fact now that Amber was in trouble, which meant Jack was in trouble, and we definitely wouldn’t be fucking leaving.
“What was your plan if we hadn’t shown up?” I asked, really interested in the answer.
He smirked. “Who do you think logged that photo of her into the data base with Tae?”
“So, you wanted us to show up.” Cole’s logic of it being fate hadn’t been true. Will had organized it.
“Jack needs family and I need Amber to move on from Jax if she is going to have a future with me. Bringing you into the picture made sense.”
