I watched the circle spin around and then it loaded; we were in. “We have what is called a bird’s eye view. Now, Jack, you aren’t allowed to tell your mom about this. Because if she knew I could look her up, she would kill me, and then you for going behind her back.”

Amber hated it when I checked up on her. And if she knew I had this sort of access to her life, she would possibly use me as target practice.

“Okay, I won’t tell Mom.”

“All right. Now your mom likes to go by other names. We need to know all of them. I know two. Do you know any?”

He nodded. “I need to get down.”

I turned the chair and Jack jumped off me, going to Amber’s drawer. I watched him push the paperwork aside and he lifted the inside drawer up. He knew Amber had a hollow drawer.

“Jack, are you allowed in there?” I asked him, as he searched in the drawer.

“Nope. Got them!” He grabbed something and then jumped back on my lap.

I looked at what he got, and I smiled. “They are perfect, Jack. Exactly what we needed.” I took the licenses off him. “Okay, now we will start with this one. Amber Jenkins.” I typed it in.

“How will we know if she is sick?” Jack moved on my lap; he wasn’t crying anymore. I think I was distracting him now.

The window opened and everything about Amber Jenkins was there. “We are able to look at everything about Amber Jenkins. And right here, we can search medical.”

“Will never had access to that!”

“Only a few people get access to this, Jack. I am one of them.” I hit Amber’s medical records, and it was blank. Looks like she hadn’t used this name for medical reasons. “Okay, Jack, you see how there is no information here?”

“Yeah. It’s blank.” Jack’s eyes were on the screen.

“That means your mom hasn’t been to doctors with this name. So next name.” I put that license to the side. And we started working through Amber’s fake licenses.

She had over ten. And we searched every one and nothing came up under medical.

“Okay, Jack. Your mom hasn’t been to the doctors using one of those names.” I frowned. I knew I was missing the name she must use. Because there was no way she had gone six years without going to a doctor’s appointment.

“What about mom’s real name?” Jack looked back at me. “We haven’t tried that.”

I nodded and typed inAmber Shields. Clicked medical and it did have records. “Okay, you could be on to something, Jack.”

I started scrolling through to get to the last entry, then got to the end. I clicked on the last entry.

“What does it say, Dad?”

I scanned the doctor’s report. “She was told she was pregnant.” I should have been there for this appointment.

“I’m getting a sister!”

“No, Jack. She was told she was pregnant with you.” I looked at the date. I knew that date, I was being transferred to a different prison. I wouldn’t let her see me. She had actually had one of Blake’s men tell me to call her, after I ignored her every time she had reached out to me on that day, and the days that followed.

“So, I’m not getting a sister.” Jack sighed.

“No, buddy.” And I doubted I’d ever be able to convince Amber to have another child with me, after how I treated her. I made her face that alone. I blocked her out of my life. How the fuck was I ever going to make that up to her?

While my mind tried to come up with ideas of how to fix the damage I had done to Amber’s life, Jack’s words ran through my head again and I frowned. “Why do you want a sister and not a brother?” I looked at Jack.

“Mom says I’m like you and if Mom gives me a sister, she could just be like Mom.” Jack turned on my lap with the largest smile on his face. “Don’t you think another Mom would be cool?”

A girl just like Amber. A daughter. Just like Amber. With Amber’s smile, and eyes. God, I was already considered a serial killer but if I had a daughter who looked just like Amber, I would become a killing machine. No man would be good enough for my daughter.

A daughter like Amber. My mind was slowly picturing what our daughter could look like.
