“You say that like you don’t do the exact same thing.” She gave me a smug look.
“I knew you still watched it!” Adam pointed a finger at me. “So, you staying up, Amber?”
“Nope.” I picked up my stir fry. “I’m going to bed.” I glanced at Jax. “You staying up for the fight?” I didn’t mind if he did. I knew after I gave the boys a reality check earlier tonight, he would need to speak to them when I wasn’t around.
“What a stupid question, Amber. We all know Jax is going to bed with you.” Tyler walked around me, heading for the couch with pizza and beers.
“Yeah, it was a stupid question, Amber.” Jax took the pizza box and smokes Troy was handing him. “Anyway, the boys don’t want me up.”
The boys all grunted in agreeance.
“Why would you not want Jax up?” I looked between my brothers for an answer.
“He predicts the moves. Knows exactly what each fighter is going to do after the first hit.” Adam put his feet on the coffee table. “Fucking ruins the fight.”
“Yeah, so take him with you.” Cole finally said something and had stopped staring at me.
I shrugged. Works out for me. I started to follow Jax to the bedroom and then I spun around. “Hey, Troy, can you make Chels a cup of tea?” Her eyes narrowed at me. I quickly spun back around. “Night, guys,” I said over my shoulder.
I caught up to Jax on the stairs. “How tired are you?” I asked, as soon as I reached him.
He gave me a look as if he knew what I was thinking. “We’re watching the fight.” He pushed open the bedroom for me. And I couldn’t help but grin. He knew exactly what I wanted.
I hoped the boys were wrong though about him ruining the fights. Because I lived on the edge of my seat watching the fights. Jax better not ruin my fun.
Chapter 19
Chelsea
I stared down at my phone. Message after message. He wasn’t stopping. I wasn’t going to lie, I was reading them. Just not replying. How did Mason expect me to react? He drained my bank account to zero. He wouldn’t get out of my house and somehow now, he was now entitled to half of it.
Thanks to that whole living together for longer than six months rule.
I had kept my coat on the whole time Amber’s brothers were downstairs. I wasn’t going to lie, I kept glancing at Troy. And it seemed like my lucky night, because he didn’t take his eyes off the television all night.
Then he went to bed before his brothers.
Was it sad that I noticed that?
Anyway, seeing as I was alone now and no one was coming back down stairs tonight, I could finally take my coat off.
My arm was bruising badly. I looked at the marks Mason’s hand had left on my arm, from gripping me so tight it left a hand print.
I was going to have to wear long sleeved tops around Amber. If she knew half the shit, or even a small dose of what Mason was putting me through, well, I think she would set one of her brothers on to him.
I saw firsthand how Troy reacted because Amber must have told him to threaten Mason. Scare him. I knew Amber would do that. What I didn’t understand though, was why she got Troy to bash Mason like that.
Thanks to that little stunt, I’ve been living at Mason’s beck and call. He wouldn’t press charges against Troy. I knew that now. Because Mason was too scared about blow back. I don’t know what Troy told him but it was enough for Mason to not want to get Troy involved again.
Sadly, he now knew Amber’s brothers were back in her life. Not that he really knew much about Amber, because I hadn’t told him a word about Amber’s past.
He somehow had all this information about Amber. How he even got her real name was beyond me. But he had it and he knew things. Like things Amber had done in her past, that she hadn’t been charged for.
It was like he had this secret file on Amber’s past and he said the only thing stopping him from not telling the police was me.
So, I didn’t tell Amber the waves Mason was causing at work. I didn’t tell her he was in my office daily, verbally abusing me or physically abusing me. And tonight, I had to go to dinner with his parents and act like I was still with him.
When his parents started dropping hints about Mason and I getting married, I was terrified. But Mason’s reaction was what sent ice through my veins, he looked at me and said, one day soon.
