“You will stuff your face with chocolate ice cream, getting full, and maybe have one bite of the Chinese and pizza, right?” I said, smiling at him. I knew him too well and then picked up the tea towel.

He nodded. “So, what do you want, Mom?” He handed me the menus, which had a picture of each dish next to them.

Will had made it his mission to get a picture of every dish. We actually ordered everything off the menu at one place and then went to the next. Ones with a green tick meant Jack liked them. Red marks meant Jack hated it.

“I think I’m going to get a noodle box.” I said, feeling like stir fry.

“And who is remembering this order?” Will said to our backs as we headed for the couch.

“You are,” Jack and I said together and jumped on the couch.

“And who is getting these orders?”

“You are,” Jack and I said again.

I picked up the remote.

“Mom, can we watch that documentary on the bikers again?”

Jack knew all about Jax. He knew his Dad was in prison. He knew everything about Jax. I had always been open with Jack about Jax. Any question he had got answered. So, Jack knew his dad was a biker.

I had recorded a documentary on Satan’s Sons. And once Jack found out his dad was a member of Satan’s Sons, he was obsessed with watching the hour and a half special on how dangerous Satan’s Sons were. It highlighted all the reasons one should be scared of them.

But Jack being Jack, he didn’t fear them. He loved them. I think it was because it made him feel closer to Jax. So, I scrolled down the list of recorded shows, highlighting it.

Jack started jumping up and down and then ran to his beanbag and pulled it in front of the television.

Will kissed my cheek, and I turned to smile at him.

“Do you want anything else apart from a noodle box?” He leaned over the couch. “Maybe another bottle of red?” He smirked, knowing me.

“Screw that. As soon as Jack is in bed, I’m hitting the sprits.”

Will laughed. “So, you won’t be up saying goodbye to me in the morning then?”

I frowned immediately. “I hate it when you go away.” I twisted on the couch to face him. “Can you just cancel?”

“Sorry, babe. But I think the defense won’t win unless I’m there to argue the case.” He tucked my hair behind my ear. “The case shouldn’t string out for long.”

“Why can’t you get cases here?”

“I do. You know that.” He kissed my lips and pulled away too quick. “The court doesn’t care if I don’t live in the city of their latest criminal crackdown.”

“I hate criminals.” I hated them for always pulling Will away from me. He spent way too much time fighting them and putting them behind bars.

“Says the girl with a lengthy record.”

I poked him in the ribs. “You said you wouldn’t look!”

“Babe, I saw your record before I even asked you on our first date,” Will said with his carefree, loving grin.

“Will, I’m hungry!” Jack cried from his beanbag, watching the introduction to the documentary I knew backward and so did he.

“And I just got my marching orders.” Will gave me another grin and straightened up. “You sure you don’t want anything else?”

“What else did you know about me before our first date?” I narrowed my eyes at him. This was the first time he had ever let that slip.

“I know enough to keep my mouth shut now.” He backed away from me.
