“It’s not just you. It’s work. Tae. Will, my partner, and Jack, who is my son and who just turned six but you would think sixteen.” She nervously pulled on the ends of her hoodie sleeves then ran her hands through her hair. “It’s all adding up.”

“What’s wrong with Jack?” If I could take some of her problems, I would. Starting with whatever our son was putting her through at the moment.

“Tae gave him tickets to the UK to visit him for his birthday.”

Well, that wouldn’t be happening. No son of mine would be near fucking Tae. “That’s not happening.”

“That’s what I said and Tae knew what I thought about it but gave the tickets to Jack. In his birthday card. Needless to say, it’s only been one day and Jack won’t stop about it.”

“Why would Tae go against you?” For some reason, I had a feeling Tae wouldn’t defy Amber. He always respected her too much for that.

“He said that Jack isn’t safe here and I should let him go back with him.”

“Why wouldn’t Jack be safe?” Was Tae the reason for this? Putting my son in danger. I’d kill him. I didn’t care how well protected he was. He was currently in my country and was more than in my grips.

“Something to do with Will. But when I asked Will, he just closed up.” Amber sighed. “Like I said, it’s stress.”

“I’ll look into it.” If Will wasn’t going to answer her questions, I’d find out the answers myself.

She opened her mouth and I bet it was to tell me not to but her phone started ringing on the coffee table.

She reached for it, answering it without checking the number. “You are half an hour late,” she said into the phone.

What did she mean by that?

She frowned. “How did you know I was home by myself?” She glanced at me and then got up. I think she was taking her conversation private. “No, I’m not telling my brothers to come back. I can be home by myself.”

Well, she wasn’t home by herself.

“Will, calm down.”

So, it was her partner. I didn’t like him. Hated his job. And hated him for being with the woman I loved.

“Okay! Will, calm down! My brothers aren’t here but I’m not by myself!” she yelled at him.

So, she was going to tell him she was with me? I suppressed the smirk. If I was him, I would be worried. Because I was planning on Amber and my son being in my life. I knew I couldn’t expect her to be back in relationship with me but that didn’t mean I wasn’t going to try.

“Jax is here.”

I glanced at her, frozen in the kitchen, listening to whatever he was saying.

“What do you mean ask him to stay!”

He wanted me to stay? Here? With the woman he clearly loved? Why? He would have to know I loved her. I didn’t just give up six years of my life for nothing. I did it because I loved her.

Amber’s eyes locked with mine. “I don’t understand.” She looked all sorts of confused. “I know you keep saying trust you but I’m starting to get worried. Actually, I passed worried when you ordered my brothers to stay here.”

The boys had lied to me. They weren’t just getting to know their nephew; they were protecting him. Why? Who was putting my son’s life at risk? Was it Will, because I could have a hit on him within the hour.

Killing the man Amber was planning on spending the rest of her life with should feel wrong but it didn’t.

“Don’t tell me everything is fine, Will! You have my brothers watching me. You have the police following me. And you’ve managed to get Tae to try to take my son to another country!”

Amber was frustrated. She hated being kept in the dark. If there was a problem, she would face it head on. She wouldn’t run from it.

I pulled out my phone and messaged Troy, asking why was he watching her.

Amber scoffed. “Lie then. Fine, I’m done.” She pulled the phone from her ear and hung up. She was breathing sharply, glaring at the phone in her hand. I was up, walking around the couch. She jumped when my hands landed on her hips.
