I glanced at Jax to find his eyes on me. Did he even hear Tyler? What was he thinking? Was he thinking like me? That we had been one second from making a huge mistake? That’s what it would have been, right? A mistake? One I would regret? I would have regretted it, right?
The more I thought about it, the more unsure I got about the answer.
“Jax?” Tyler questioned him again, and Jax’s eyes snapped off me.
“Good, Tyler. Thanks for servicing it.” Jax did his belt up. “I’ll pay you for it.”
Tyler grinned. “You already did.”
“Of course, I did.” Jax rolled his eyes, knowing my brother too well. “Well, fair enough. You didn’t have to look after it.”
“Beautiful machine didn’t deserve to go to shit just because the owner got his ass sent to prison.”
“Yeah, well, I’m upgrading now.”
My eyes snapped back to Jax. Had he just said he was selling his bike? “But you love that bike.” I couldn’t see one reason why he would sell it. I don’t know how many hours we had wasted on it together. He used to say me on the back of his bike was his second favorite place to have me, our bed being first.
It was one of a kind and it was the only thing Jax’s dad had ever given him.
“Didn’t say I was selling it.” Jax looked at me, as if he knew what I was thinking.
“Well, with your untouched money, you could go all out and get one off the showroom floor.” Tyler was delighted at the thought. “Want some brother-in-law advice when picking?”
My eyes snapped to Tyler. Just because he had caught Jax and I kissing did not mean Jax was his brother-in-law. Jax and I were not in a relationship. Will told me to get it out of my system. I didn’t know what that meant. Still didn’t.
“Already found one online.” Jax was standing next to me. When did he move across the room to me? “Just need Amber’s approval.”
“My approval? Why?” Why would he want my approval? Wasn’t like I was getting on the back of it.
“Want you to feel safe on it plus feel safe enough with it for Jack to get on.” Jax took my hand out of the running water. “How’s the hand?”
I didn’t care about my hand! How the hell did he know!? How the hell did he know he was my excuse! “How did you know?” I snapped.
“About?”
“You being my excuse. Jack knows he isn’t allowed even near a motorcycle unless you are the one driving it.”
It was bad enough having him drooling over his uncle’s bikes, and nagging for a ride. I told him he wasn’t allowed on one unless Jax was in control of it. At the time I said that, I didn’t think Jack was seeing Jax until he was much older.
Jax cocked a grin. “Well, the legal age.”
“I’ll come up with a new excuse. Like if he gets on it Santa dies.”
Tyler burst out laughing and Cole smirked. I was not above pulling that line. The Easter Bunny and Santa were my get out of jail cards. When backed into a corner, I would always threaten them.
“You wouldn’t do that.” Tyler’s laughter dried up. “You know he wants to get on one. He has been begging me.”
“And me,” Cole added.
“What are we talking about?” Troy walked in, yawning.
“Amber won’t let Jack on the back of Jax’s bike. She is going to kill Santa.” Tyler was finding my threat amusing.
Troy looked at me, not impressed. “He hasn’t stopped asking. It was the one thing he wanted for his birthday I couldn’t get him.”
“Anyway, you can’t kill Santa,” Tyler chipped in.
“Wanna bet? When we moved here, I told him the Easter Bunny wouldn’t get our new address unless he stopped hiding my things.” My wallet, phone, and car keys started to reappear after that and ended up being left where I left them.
