I was serious. I would be doing the world a fucking favor.

“Are you not listening! Amber is being executed!”

“What the fuck are you talking about? Amber is asleep in the room next to me.”

The boys were staring at me, and as if they knew what I was thinking, Tyler went to go make sure Amber was asleep.

“She is being executed at three. Are you listening, Johnston? The woman we love is going to die in half an hour!”

My eyes were on Tyler as he walked back in. “She’s not in there.” He frowned.

“Why would she be executed in the first place?” I was calm. I needed facts. But I was already up, getting my holster.

“She didn’t tell you what was happening?”

I knew she was holding something back. “No.” I took the phone from my ear and put it on loudspeaker. At least now the boys would be able to hear what was happening while I got dressed.

“Amber and Jack was put on a hit list. The Matthews brothers came to me with their business. I kept Amber and Jack safe. But failed to deliver their death. So, they took their business elsewhere. Then they contacted me tonight, offered a deal.”

“What is the deal?” I was clipping my guns on. I was calm. I was so fucking deadly calm.

“That if Amber offered herself up, they would take Jack off the list.”

“She took the deal?”

“Yes. They are executing her at three, at the dock.”

“Why would they just settle for Amber and not both of them?” I knew how this side of the world worked. Yeah, I knew it backward. I fucking controlled it.

“Will. He is going up against the Matthews brothers. They put the hit on Amber and Jack. Will won’t give up the case. They are facing hard time, and they are going to lose. If Amber is killed, he will be pulled from the case due to family circumstances. He will be forced to give up the case. They have his colleagues on their side. Will knows this, so has a death grip on the case.”

“Wait a fucking second. Am I hearing this right?” Troy picked up the phone “You are saying my sister is being executed?”

“In twenty-six minutes now.”

“You can’t be serious. Amber wouldn’t let someone take her from Jack,” Tyler scoffed. “As if she is willingly going to be executed. I know my sister. She is a fucking fighter!”

I had never seen Tyler lose his temper but he had lost it now. He was normally carefree.

“She wouldn’t fucking do it!” he yelled. “She wouldn’t fucking do that to us! Or Jack!”

“Are all you not listening to me! Amber has always put Jack first. They are promising her that they will take her son off a list, let him live. She didn’t even think twice about it.” Tae’s voice filled the room.

We all knew it. In that instant. Amber’s words rang in my mind.Jack always comes first. She would willingly die to protect him.

“Where is the execution taking place?” I picked the phone up and headed down the hall. I needed a bike and gun. That was it.

“The dock.”

The boys were stumbling out of their rooms all juggling boots, guns, and bike keys in their hands.

“The dock is half an hour away,” Troy yelled at my back. I was running down the stairs. Bike. Guns.

“We will make it.” I threw open the front door.

“Even speeding we won’t fucking make it! We need to call the police. We need to call someone else, someone closer!” Adam was yelling at us, panicking. He was realizing he was about to lose his sister. Adam was closest to Amber in age. They had always had a weird connection. One you couldn’t explain. Right now, out of all of us, I knew Adam was the one who had the best gut feeling about how this was going to end, because when it came to Amber, he could predict her behavior.

“Fuck, Jax, Adam’s right. This isn’t a time to frown on the police. Doesn’t matter who gets there, we just need someone there to stop it.” Cole was backing up his brother’s opinion.
