“What the fuck is going on!” Cole yelled, He took one step toward her, and Amber raised the gun at her own fucking head.

“They have Dad, which means they have Jack.” Amber took the phone from her ear and dropped it. “Please don’t make me do it in front of you.”

We went silent. She wasn’t… no… she wasn’t…

Her eyes locked with mine. “Leave, Jax. I don’t want you to see this.” Her eyes then broke from mine and scanned her brothers. “You all need to leave. I know you won’t be able to handle seeing this.” She was trying to save us from witnessing her death.

“You all know Jack comes first. I’m leaving him in good hands.” She was speaking like nothing would change her mind. “Now I need you all to turn around.”

“No.” Cole shook his head. “You hear me, Amber, no!”

“We should never have tracked you down.” Troy’s words were painted in pain. “We should have respected your wishes.” Regret covered each word as he said it, like it was his fault for tracking her down, that led to her here, with a gun to her head.

Amber was pulling the gun from her head. “Will put me in this position, not you. Not any of you. Now, I’m leaving Jack with you all.”

“And how are we going to explain how you died, Amber?” Tyler’s carefree attitude was gone. “How the fuck do we explain you killing yourself to him!”

Amber did something that shouldn’t be impossible for her to do right now. She smiled, it was dim, it was grim but it was a smile. “You tell him, I said yes.”

“Yes, to fucking what! Killing yourself!” Troy yelled at her, hurt like all of them.

“To live with Jax.” Her eyes went to me. “He has wanted to live with you, from the moment he heard about you. I always said no. But you tell him I said yes.”

“So, that’s how we are meant to explain your death! You killed yourself because you wanted him to live with Jax?” Cole’s emotions were all over the place. Screaming but yet begging at the same time. “Don’t do this to him, to us.”

“We need you, Amber. We fucking need you! Are you hearing us!” Troy took a step toward her, and she took one back, balancing on the edge now.

“Jack comes first.” She was firm. “I die. Jack lives his life. He won’t die because of me. I won’t let it happen.” Her finger went to the trigger. “Turn away.” She said that like it was our final warning. “I know you all can’t live seeing this.”

The boys had tried to talk to her. The boys had failed.

Now it was my turn. Amber was a free spirit. She loved to test boundaries. She was loyal as hell to the ones she loved. She had one fucking good aim on her. But there was also another thing about her, that no one really knew apart from her and I. She was my submissive.

She would cave to me.

She would listen to me.

It was like something snapped inside her, and she couldn’t not do what I say.

So, now it was my turn to stop her. I wasn’t going to beg her. I wasn’t going to tell her how much I loved her and needed her. That wasn’t going to stop her.

“Amber, put the gun down.” My voice went up, like I was speaking to a member who had disobeyed me and not the woman I love. “You are going to drop that gun and walk to me.”

She shook her head. “I’m not letting you get inside my head, Jax!” She did take the gun from her head and pointed it at me briefly. “They have our son. I die. He lives. Pretty fucking simple!”

“What proof do you have that they have Jack?” I was going to be logical with her. “What has you thinking they have our son?”

The phone call she had been on held the key. But my goal at the moment was just to keep her talking and slowly approach her. I had made three steps toward her, as she debated on what to tell me.

“They have Dad,” Amber said. “Which means they have Jack.”

“How do you know they have your dad?”

“I spoke to him on the phone.”

I moved another step closer to her. “And what did he say?”

“No matter the distance, no matter the speed, I will see you wherever you be.”
