I frowned. “So, how is that him telling you he has been kidnapped?” Just keep her talking and I would keep creeping toward her. As soon as she was within reach, I was launching for the gun.
Adam walked the steps I had managed to gain and stood beside me, staring at Amber.
“Is that all he said?” Adam asked. “Did he say anything about Jack at all?”
“He doesn’t have to! I know Jack is with him. They got to Dad; they got to Jack. I die. They let them both go! Turn around!” Amber didn’t have it in her to make her brothers witness her death.
I didn’t know where Adam was going with his theory. But I needed to get a few facts into Amber’s head.
“Amber. You know my life depends on you living.” I took a step toward her and she realized now the gap between us had closed.
“Don’t come any closer, Jax!”
“You know how much I love you; you know I never want to hurt you.”
She scoffed. “Yet all you have ever done is hurt me. Don’t feed me that line, Jackson! I need you to man up for once in your life. Man the fuck up and take care of your son. You don’t need me to keep breathing. You need to pull your shit together and look after your son!”
“I need you.”
“You’ve never needed me, Jax. I’ve always needed you.” She said that like it was the bitter truth. “I will always love you. Now please turn around.”
“No, if you’re going to do it, I’m going to fucking watch.” I wasn’t turning around. If she was really going to do it, she would have to look me in the eyes.
“Respect my decision, Jax. Turn around.”
“No.”
“You won’t be able to handle watching it!”
“So, you know that but you are going to do it anyway.”
She sighed. “I tried to warn you. But like always, you never listen to me.” She looked at her brothers, each of them for a few seconds. “You all know better. Turn around. Because I want you to recover from this and not be haunted by what I’m about to do.”
Adam took a step back from me, and Amber. “You always wanted it to be a full moon.” Sadness was covering every word. “I love you, Amber.”
A soft smile spread across her lips. “I know you do. You made a promise to me. And now you are keeping it.”
“That promise was to end your life if you were suffering from cancer. This doesn’t count.” Adam’s eyes dropped to the ground. “We just got you back.”
I looked at him. I couldn’t fucking believe it. He was accepting it. He was accepting her decision! I watched in horror as he turned around, giving Amber exactly what she wanted.
Amber’s eyes went to Cole. “Cole. I know you don’t do graveyards or funerals. So, I don’t expect you to do either.”
He was pinching his eyes shut. “You weren’t to die before me.” He opened his eyes, tears spilling down. “This isn’t how it is meant to go!”
“Every time you look at Jack, you will be seeing a piece of me. I’ll still be with you.” Amber gave him a smile. “Now turn around.”
He turned fucking around! They were accepting it!
First Adam and now Cole.
Then Tyler gave her a smile and just turned around as well. Like he couldn’t bear having one last conversation with her, so he just respected what she wanted and turned around.
Troy crossed his arms, “So, what have you got planned on telling me in order for me to do what you want, Amber? Because I’m telling you now. No fucking sister of mine is killing herself because of a threat.”
She nodded, accepting what he said. “I already knew you wouldn’t turn around, Troy. You and I are too similar. We won’t give up fighting for something until we lose completely.’
Then Amber’s eyes turned on to me. Time to start begging her.
