I turned around to them. “We will sit down. Talk it out. I’ll make the calls. But first I want to get Amber home and in bed. Then we can start talking about what we will do.” I settled their concerns.

They all nodded.

“Jax?”

Troy stopped me as I was about to open the driver’s door. He glanced down, looking at Amber in the car. Then he looked back at me. “You ever speak to Amber like how you did before, I’ll walk from the club. And I’ll take her.” Troy wasn’t giving me an empty threat. “Don’t fucking hurt her again.”

“I’m not going to.” I looked at all of them. “I won’t hurt her.”

“You already her hurt tonight. Don’t think we didn’t see how she reacted when you ripped her to shreds. Calling her selfish. The last time I saw her that hurt, she took my bike, went to an airport, and flew to fucking England.” Troy was keeping his voice low so Amber didn’t hear. “I just got her back.”

“I won’t hurt her.” I understood where they were coming from.

They just kept staring at me.

I sighed. Okay, I had cost them time in Amber’s life twice. Once, when she went to England to get away from me. And then again, when she cut them off to get me out of her life. So, I couldn’t just tell them to fuck off.

“If you think I’m hurting her, you take her. I won’t hold you responsible to the club rules. I won’t put a sergeant of arms on your case, for walking from your blood oath from the club.” I looked at each of them. “I’ll let you all walk. Take Amber and Jack and fucking relocate overseas.”

“You serious? You would let us walk from the club? Even though we are life members?” Cole looked at me with disbelief. “You do remember we are life members, right?”

I knew they were all life members. And I had the right to end their life if they walked.

“You don’t even have to hand in your patch.” My hand went to the doorknob. “Okay?”

“So, we all settle on the fact Amber and Jack come first then?” Tyler looked between all of us.

“Just for the record. I want Jax in Amber’s life,” Adam said, surprising everyone.

All eyes snapped to him.

He had always supported Amber and me. I had no fucking idea why. Even when Amber and I were young. Hell, even when I was in prison he would call and relive memories about Amber.

I didn’t know what to say to him. Thank him?

He shrugged. “Jack needs his dad. Jax is his dad. Jack and Amber need to be protected. Jax will make sure they are. I honestly don’t think that Jax is going to fuck up again.” He looked at his stunned brothers. “Let’s get Amber home.” Then he looked at me. “You aren’t planning on fucking up again, are you?”

“No. I’m not fucking up. I’m not letting her down or Jack.” I knew my history with Amber, wasn’t working in my favor. “If you think I am,” I looked at Adam and then his brothers. “Or if any of you think I am, take her and Jack from me. Walk from the club. Do what you got to do.”

I was giving them permission that was unheard of.

Cole pointed a finger at me. “You know you might not fuck up this time, Johnston.”

“What has you saying that?” Troy looked at him.

“Jack.” Cole grinned. “Once Jax meets him, he is going to do everything possible not to lose him or Amber.”

“Who said Jack is going to accept him?” Troy arched his eyebrows at Cole and then looked at me, rather smug. Like he knew that was my biggest fear. What if Jack didn’t want me?

With that said, Troy and the rest of them walked to their bikes. I took a deep breath in. Even if Jack wouldn’t look at me as his dad, I could try and have some role in his life. Right?

I swallowed my fears and opened the car door. I couldn’t make Amber reassure me I was good enough again. I had to keep my fears to myself. Because she’d had one heck of a night.

I had to get her home and then start working down the list of shit that had to be done.
