“I do, with help.” I smile a sly smile at her.

“See, a different breed.” She laughs. “But you see things when you’re touched? By the living and the dead?”

“How do you know all these things about me?” I’ve never met her, but I know of her and her husband's family.

“I don’t have to see things to know them, the land of the dead speaks, too. Just because we are dead doesn't mean we aren’t alive.” I look at her like she’s crazy, because that’s exactly what it means.

“Is that supposed to be a joke I missed? If you’re dead, you’re dead, with no chance of being alive.” I say, crossing my arms over my chest and waiting for her to elaborate.

“No, it’s not a joke.” She says. “We aren’t alive here, but we are most definitely alive on another plane of existence, you with your naked eyes can’t see.” She huffs.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you.” I offer, grabbing her elbow. “I’m just taking my frustration out on you, and I’m sorry.” I confess.

“Don’t let what she said upset you. She is bound to you both, but promised to Tiberius.” She says, swiping her hand across the side of my face and offering me a warm, motherly smile. “She will come back to you.”

“How can you know that? I lied to her when I knew who she was from the beginning.” I whisper. “I was only supposed to help keep her safe, but when I saw how beautiful she was and what she was thinking, I couldn’t stop what I did next.” When I say it out loud, it sounds like I went in knowing exactly what I was doing and wanted to be the first one to claim her.

“But you did know what you were doing, you just didn’t know you would come out feeling so strongly towards her.” She says as if she’s reading my mind.

“I suppose that may be true. I don’t know, I’m all mixed up and to know that she’s going to look for him is killing me.” I whisper. “I need something to do to occupy my time.”

“When was the last time you paid a visit to The Messengers?” She asks.

“I’ve been back and forth, keeping up appearances, while juggling the million and one other things I’ve got going on.”

“Something is happening. Have you been followed during any of your travels between them and The Ministry of Order?” All good questions that have me thinking.

“I don’t visit The Ministry Of Order. We have a telepathic connection that I can check in on and as far as my Oracle, I visit her anytime within my mind. I only go between The Messengers and back to one of the places I call home.” Even if I were followed, they wouldn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

“Hmmm, I wonder if Ty has ever been followed. Surely this Darkness would shield him from prying eyes.” She grunts while throwing her hands in the air.

“You’re jealous he refers to her as Mother, aren’t you?” I know I would be.

“I have a right to be. I mean, I know I was taken from him while he was young, but I should be here with him, not her. She is evil and has turned my son into something he is not.” She whines.

“I understand. I don’t have any words of encouragement for you. The only thing I can offer you right now is a shoulder to cry on and some ice cream.” I offer, because it seems fitting at a time like this… For her that is. I can handle what’s being dished out to me. Afterall, I started it.

“Uh, everyone seems to forget I’m still around. Maybe I should just go back where I came from.” Rogan says, coming to sit down beside his wife.

“Oh, honey, nobody has forgotten about you. We are just wrapped up in our sorrows right now.” Tempest says, reaching out and grabbing his hand.

“Don’t you all think we should be doing something more productive than sitting here waiting for the shit to hit the fan? What do you think is going to happen when Tiberius finds out the truth about us, why he was sent to kill Moon, and that Aryas has claimed his girl?” He asks, looking directly at me.

“Yeah, you’re right. I’ll go back to The Messenger's hideout and wait for him to come there, but you must find me if you learn anything new that can be helpful to us all.”

“We will and, son, in the meantime… Don’t get yourself killed.” Tempest calls out to me as they fade away.

“Easier said than done, ma’am.” I get up, feeling a little better. That’s a lie, but I have to get my head in the game. I don’t dare use the entrance to this place, because that’s all I need is for someone to see me and report back. “Off to the headquarters I go.”

Chapter Fourteen

Tiberius

Makingmywaybackhome is the only thing that’s on my mind. I can’t wait to go to my Luna Nera after what felt like an eternity being away from her. I called Kayla and had her take Laney for me. She’s going to stay there until she can get a handle on her powers or I can find someone who is just like her that will be able to help her. Not that she really needs it, the girl was phenomenal at the end of it all.

Kayla will get her settled for the time being, or at least until I figure out what the hell to do with her. Right now, I only have one thing and one girl on my mind. As I race home, I need to ask a little favor of someone.

“Mother?”
